New Warhammer MMO coming to Xbox One, PS4

Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2015 from Naughty Bear developer Behaviour Interactive.

Naughty Bear developer Behaviour Interactive is currently working on an all-new Warhammer massively multiplayer game called Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade, the company announced today in tandem with license holder Games Workshop.

No Caption Provided

Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade is currently in development for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One with a targeted release window of late 2015.

A third-person action game, Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade features gunplay and melee, as well as a persistent world whose fate is decided by players. The game's four initial races are Space Marines, Chaos Space Marines, Orks, and Eldar.

The game also will feature a "deep progression system" that draws from the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Warhammer 40,000: Eternal Crusade is the third new Warhammer game to be announced since March, following a new smartphone and tablet game from the studio behind Family Guy Online, the turn-based strategy game from Slitherine, and multiple titles from Creative Assembly.

*sigh* why won't all MMO's die already, so they don't waste good IP's on them.

Hope it has multiple planets to travel between. A single huge hive/forge/etc. -world having an Ork Waaagh-, Chaos-, Eldar-, Tyranid-, etc etc invasions at the same time could make sense, but it wouldn't.

@dj-armeliaz True. It would definitely need to have multiple planets, similar to SWTOR. Otherwise, it just wouldn't feel like a real 40k game. They really need to try and get more races back into the game as well. I miss the Necrons, Tau, and Dark Eldar.

This can only end so well...

At this point, the only way 40K video games can be saved is if Valve approached Games Workshop regarding the idea of a singleplayer FPSRPG featuring the Ordo Hereticus.

One might argue about 40K being all about massive gothic/sci-fi battlefields, though there are some things that definitely could get some coverage, such as Genestealer cults and Chaos infiltration in civilized worlds.

@DeViLzzz There is Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, which is still around. Vigil was working on a 40k MMO called Dark Millennium Online which was never released.

I played Reckoning too, I thought it was alright but it depopulated so fast. I"m more interested in 40k though.

I am very disappointed as a guy who has both WFB and W40000 the physical boxed games.

I`d prefer a single player game but when it must be an MMO its very sad that it will be one that is crippled for the awful controller limitations of consoles.

You cannot have a deep game with lots of skills etc when you have few buttons available.

It will be dumbed down to the lowest common denominator

@edinko At least on xbox you could used smartglass as a second screen, like for inventory management, however that would require it, lmao.

@ry @edinko WEll the smartglass is of very limited use in a game in real time. Inagine that you are holding the controller an then what if you need to do something fast in combat? will you hold the tablet in your mouth and operate it with your feet? Sorry mate but we don't have 4 hands.

Smart glass may be fine as some companion app stuff but its use in real time is almost zero. That is if you don't have 4 hands. Actually both MS and Sony are pretty dumb to not make a gamepad similar to the WIIU one. You could have 2! 1 normal and 1 with a touschreen and normal buttons exactly for games like this.

@edinko I disagree. Neverwinter MMO is a prime example of a short button MMO that still has depth. Even Guild Wars does a so-so job of it. It's when you trade skill interactions, for pretty lights(CoH/V) and damage numbers(WoW), that you start having problems.

@Khasym @edinko Well NW and GW don't have any button limitations. They could add there more stuff that would need more buttons. On console that is not possible. The problem is when a game is form ground up crippled with this contraints in mind. THe devs simply don't have the freedom to do what they do cause they must always look at the gamepad and see that they have 1-2 or 3 buttons available and are forced to dumd down.

Not to speak of that you simply cannot text chat in real time properly with a pad

@kyphe @edinko @feleas @DeViLzzz exactky like you said mate. If it will be dumbed down enough. But I don't want it to be dumbed down. I have the WFB and W400000 ruleboooks right next to me and those are complex games

Well if it has proper targeting and not point click rubbish like a proper action game and also a streamlined hotbar system like guidwars2 I am all for it. All those endless hotbars need to be buried in the bin of history.

@DeViLzzz That's of limited use. If you play mmos you know that there are many separate channels. You can use mic to chat with your group but what about regional, trade advice an other channels? you cant use mic on these.

They better start out F2P coz its just going to end up there shortly after release anyway. Paid mmo's are a thing of the past.

I'm very interested in this but I worry about multi-platform games and I don't have confidence in these guys pulling off a console MMO well. I think if they were serious about making it an MMO they should have concentrated on PC. I have a feeling it will end up being a glorified multiplayer experience instead of a proper MMO.

Behavior Interactive develop social media games, and mobile games. Sorry if I don't have any faith in them to make a proper Warhamer MMO game, let alone any Warhammer game.

This isn't going to end well. They keep f'ing up the Warhammer IP.

Could be interesting if they stay faithful to the source, although not that particularly interested in 3rd person view. Would prefer it if they copied Planetside 2, with FPS mechanics and persistent territory wars.

Warhammer 40,000 is my passion. Its such a massive universe, doing an MMORPG will be no easy feat. Concentrating it on a single world is a smart move. It its successful I can see expansions expanding out to other planets in the system. 2015, Star Wars VII and now this.

Great news for Warhammer fans. The Warhammer universe is vast and full of great ideas for a MMO, but to do it justice, there has to be tons of details. Not only in the story, game play, sound, and graphics. But player progression, purpose, and control. That said, Relic's Warhammer 40k RTS series is still amazing and I still play it to this day. There is also a Warhammer strategy game in development by Creative Assembly (Rome: Total War series). Info is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Games_Workshop_video_games
