New Version Of The Office Gets An Exciting Update, But Full-Blown Reunion Is Reportedly "Out Of The Question"

Nathan For You's Michael Koman is said to be the "leading creative voice" for the potential new series.

The Office, one of the most iconic and beloved American TV shows, is reportedly getting a follow-up series, and now a major piece of news about it has emerged. Deadline reports that Michael Koman, the co-creator of Nathan For You, is the "leading creative voice" in the writers room that Greg Daniels opened this year to explore ideas for a potential new series.

If the series moves ahead, Koman could be the co-creator. Importantly, nothing is official here. A potential new series would not be a reboot of The Office. Instead, it's believed it could follow a similar mockumentary-style approach that documents the life and careers of different people.

Intriguingly, though, reports have suggested the new series would take place within the same universe as the original Office, which could make cameos from popular characters possible. Fans have been holding out hope for some kind of Office reunion of sorts featuring the main cast, but Deadline's sources said this is "out of the question."

Nathan For You, which ran for four seasons on Comedy Central, is a "docu-reality" show featuring Nathan Fielder attempting to help struggling businesses. As such, Koman definitely seems like he as a good background to help make a new version of The Office a success.

But nothing in Hollywood is ever guaranteed, and fans may recall how The Office was on the brink of getting canceled during its first season before the series exploded in popularity.

The Office, an adaptation itself of the Ricky Gervais BBC TV show in the UK, debuted in 2005 and ran for nine seasons, ending in 2013. Steve Carell, who played Michael Scott, left the show in Season 7. The series also starred John Krasinski, Rainn Wilson, B.J. Novak, Jenna Fischer, Leslie David Baker, Mindy Kaling, Kate Flannery, Phyllis Smith, Brian Baumgartner, Ed Helms, Craig Robinson, Melora Hardin, and Oscar Nunez.

Carell has said a character like Scott would not fly in today's climate with his off-color jokes.

The Office continues to be extremely popular and lucrative in syndication. NBCUniversal paid Netflix $500 million to bring all the episodes to its own streaming service, Peacock.

In other places around the world, like Australia, The Office has already been remade with new casts.
