New Vampire: The Masquerade Game, Bloodlines 2, Reveals First Playable Classes

Paradox sheds more light on the Thinbloods.

Paradox Interactive has shared some more information about Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2. The publisher revealed new tidbits about Thinbloods, one of the title's various clans, and detailed the different kinds of character classes Thinbloods will be able to choose from in the upcoming vampire game.

According to Paradox, Thinbloods are "a recent, weaker strain of vampire who face a constant struggle to survive in the World of Darkness." Thanks to this status, Thinbloods are often discriminated against by full-blooded Kindred; Paradox says they're "treated as second-class citizens" and aren't granted the same social and legal standing as other Kindred, although the vampire leadership in Seattle has been surprisingly tolerant of them.

At the start of the game, players will be able to choose between three different "disciplines" for their Thinblood, which will determine their combat abilities and other attributes. Paradox says these classes were adapted from the Vampire: The Masquerade pen-and-paper RPG. The Chiropteran discipline "calls on the vampire's strong affinity to bats" and allows players to summon swarms of them and move through the air; Mentalism bestows players with telekinetic abilities; and Nebulation gives Thinbloods command over mist.

Each discipline comes with a variety of abilities that players will be able to gradually learn as they progress through the game. Those who choose the Mentalism discipline, for instance, will start off being able to telekinetically pull objects, but they'll also be able to learn how to make NPCs levitate in the air. You can read more details about each discipline and their abilities on the Bloodlines 2 website.

Paradox says it will reveal details about the game's other clans "in the coming weeks." Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 is in development for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. No release date has been announced yet, but the title is slated to release in 2020.

They really just have to nail the dialogue and horror atmosphere for this game to be an 8 out of 10 for me. Curious how they'll handle the diablerie and how long they'll put you on the bottom of the totem pole.

It's a shame this game is first person only, it could be an amazing game, but limiting it to first person is not a smart move.

@alex33x: they should have 3rd person without a doubt.

You could easily toggle to 3rd person all the time in VTM Bloodlines and it was great to walk around this way and see your character... although for actual combat, especially guns or any targeting attack, switching to 1st person was kinda necessary since they never made 3rd person meant for combat.

Even original VTM Redemption was all third person. To go purely 1st person is a mistake and removes any connection to the character when you can never see it.

@Yams1980: Well I guess if you used guns, you needed to. I played the game multiple times entirely in 3rd person, rarely switching to first. But yes, in today's day and age, we need both not be forced into one. Specially when the older game had it.

Hopefully they'll revive redemption as well.

@alex33x: There are so many examples of first person only story rich games that are amazing. Implying that the game won't be amazing because it's first person only is a bit of a stretch.

I do agree though. it's a bad move on their part not to include it, especially since the first game had it.

@primetime-paa: It's not the story that worries me. It's more the fact that the studio developing it, is a rookie studio with only 2 games under their sleeve. I think the decision to go 1st person only is the lack of experience from said studio, as their only 2 games were both first person as well.

But yes the first game had it, so why remove it from this one?

yeah, i looked up Hardsuit Labs developer just now also. They have zero experience with an RPG and have released only one game and was a below average game. Its hard to see how this game is going have any chance at all.

As for the publisher, it looks like they like releasing any game regardless of quality. So even if the games bad, they'll release it, try to break even and don't care about their own reputation.

So by Pen and Paper the mean classic WoD and not Vampire 5th edition since they removed Paths of Thaumaturgy such as Movement of the Mind (Mentalism) from the game in that edition.
