Infogrames Entertainment has released a new group of concept images from Unreal II, its upcoming sequel to GT Interactive's first-person shooter Unreal, which was first released in 1998. The new images display some of the characters, creatures, and environments that will appear in the game.

Unreal II will feature a number of significant improvements on the previous game, including an advanced 3D engine, better enemy AI, and a real-time dialogue system. The new game is set in the same universe as the original, but it will take place around a different group of planets. Players will assume the role of a Terran Colonial Authority Frontier Marshal, the deep space equivalent of a sheriff in the Wild West, and they must locate and protect a series of powerful artifacts before they fall into enemy hands. The single-player campaign will include 13 missions, encompassing 25 different levels. The levels will be made up of several different environments ranging from underground caverns and thick rainforests to volcanic worlds and enemy starships.

Unreal II is in development at Legend Entertainment, and it is scheduled for release in March 2002. For more information, take a look at our in-depth preview of the game.
