New Transformers Cartoon Trailer Feels Like The Classic '80s Series

It's the return of the classic Megatron, Optimus Prime, and more!

The classic '80s Transformers cartoon holds a special place in many people's hearts, as many of us experienced pure sorrow when Optimus Prime died at the end of the Transformers Movie. Since then, Transformers has gone through many different looks and incarnations, including the big-budget film franchise. However, things go old school for the upcoming Machinima series Transformers: Power of the Primes, and you can check out the trailer below.

The third and final act of the Prime Wars Trilogy debuts on its Tumblr page--as well as Verison's streaming service go90--on May 1, and you can watch the first act on go90 and the second on Prime Wars Trilogy. The series follows the Autobots as a new villain arises, Megatronus (Mark Hamill), and they enlist the help of Decepticon leader Megatron (Jason Marchocha) to stop this new foe. The art and animation style is heavily influenced from Generation 1 of Transformers, a toy line--turned into a TV show--that ran from 1984 until 1992.

Joining Hamill and Wil Wheaton (Perceptor) are newcomers to the trilogy Ron Perlman as Optimus Primal, Jamie King as Solus Prime, and WWE's Samoa Joe as Predaking. Tatsunoko Productions is behind the animation of the series. The company, which was founded in the 1960s, most recently worked on Transformers: Combiner Wars, the animated web series from Hasbro and Machinima.

Power of the Primes will consist of 10 episodes and each one will be around 11 minutes long. In total, there are 20 previous episodes to catch up on before the May debut for Power of the Primes, all of which are available to watch for free online.
