Now Playing: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Trailer (Official)

The second live-action Star Wars TV show for Disney+, Disney's upcoming streaming service, has been revealed. The series will focus on the adventures of Cassian Andor, the character played by Diego Luna in the movie Rogue One, and will go into production next year.

Disney confirmed that Luna will reprise his role. The series will be set before the events of Rogue One, and is described by the studio as a "rousing spy thriller" that will "explore tales filled with espionage and daring missions to restore hope to a galaxy in the grip of a ruthless Empire."

In a statement, Luna said: "Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me. I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply."

The Andor show does not yet have a title or release date. Disney has also announced that the new streaming service will be called Disney+, and confirmed that they are making a new Marvel series centered on Loki. Disney+ launches in 2019.

Production on The Mandalorian, the first live-action Star Wars show to be announced for Disney+, is currently underway. It is being overseen by Jungle Book director Jon Favreau, and while the cast is yet to be announced, the first image was released last month. We've also had an official description, which stated that the series will "follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic." In addition, some of the directors lined up to helm episodes have been revealed, including Thor Ragnarok's Taika Waititi and Jurassic World star Bryce Dallas Howard.

Guy McAccent doesn’t need his own series.

People fail too see this isnt the next breaking bad, its only a show to add hours to the new service, if they can milk it for 3 seasons then it was a success. I doubt Andor will snipe anyone´s father on that show tho.

We know the streaming service will give you access to a big part of the disney catalog, so they are looking for shows to add the original tag. At least this service meant Clone Wars got resurrected.

I found it hard to care for Cassian or any character in rogue one. They weren't compelling, exactly.

I'm not sure why its horrible thing to know that Andor will not die during the show (most main characters don't anyways regardless of whatever situation is thrown at them). It's not always the destination but the journey that is the most interesting part.

Of the new Star Wars films the spin-offs have been my favorite. I really liked Rouge One. Andor was unfortunately not my favorite character in the film but I really liked his side-kick K2S0. Overall though I am really keen to see a Star Wars spy show based off of Rouge One.

A log has more charisma than Cassian Andor...

Spoiler, he dies miserably in a movie we already saw. Yet another prequel only proves the new timeline is an embarrassing failure, as otherwise we'd be getting stories set in it!

They should cut their losses and reboot it, only counting the original 3 movies as canon. Then maybe they can make TV shows with characters whose fate we don't already know!

@stm1185: As someone who's been a fan since he saw TESB in the theater in 1980, I'd be totally fine with this.

This reminds me of when news networks went 24hr and they needed filler material.

I may consider watching this if they can at least bring back Alan Tudek as K2SO.

Who the hell was asking for this?

OMG I'm so sick of the Original Trilogy era it's all disney is focusing on. BTW I consider the Sequel trilogy OT Part 2 cause it's basically copy & paste of the original trilogy with the factions/vehicles.

@gamingdevil800: I love the OT, but is anyone really asking for more of Captain Andor? I'm tired of prequel series telling stories that no one asked for or cares about. SW: Rebels was only slightly interesting because you really didn't know where the characters end up.

Avatar image for gamingdevil800

@ClunkerSlim: Yeah but unfortunately Rebels had a lot of filler content with the opening and finales being the best episodes.

@gamingdevil800: Yeah it's kinda stupid when you know how all these stories end
