New Star Wars The Rise Of Skywalker Trailer And Movie Poster Have Arrived

Two months until Episode 9's release.

This December, the Star Wars Skywalker saga wraps up with Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker, and the latest trailer has arrived. Check out the epic trailer above, which contains a reference to the Rebels animated series. Additionally, a new poster for the film has been revealed, which you can check out below.

The new video debuted during halftime of Monday Night Football on ESPN. The trailer sees the return of many familiar faces--some of which haven't been included in the latest Star Wars trilogy until this film, like Lando Calrissian and Emperor Palpatine. (We also got a look at some new characters, including one played by a Lord of the Rings actor.) There's also a sense of finality throughout the trailer, with both Luke and Leia saying goodbye to Rey, C-3PO taking one last look at his friends, and the words "the saga will end" popping up at 1:44.

If the new trailer has you excited, you can buy tickets to Rise of Skywalker right now. Just don't be surprised if it's hard to find good tickets on opening night--ticket sales have been very strong, at least according to one seller.

Coinciding with the trailer, we also got word on the runtime, which will make Rise of Skywalker the longest Star Wars movie ever. It will be 155 minutes long, or two hours and 35 minutes.

It's been a relatively quiet couple of months for the latest Star Wars outing. The last time fans saw any new footage was back in August at D23. We also learned a bit more about Kerri Russell's part in the film as Zorri Bliss.

That wasn't the only Episode 9 reveal during the evening. We also got a look at a new poster for the movie, which you can check out below.

No Caption Provided

One thing Star Wars fans are extremely excited about is that they'll finally learn more about the Knights of Ren, a group we saw very briefly back in Force Awakens. Episode 9 stars Daisy Ridley as Rey, Adam Driver as Kylo Ren, John Boyega as Finn, Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron, Kelly Marie Tran as Rose Tico, Lupita Nyong'o as Maz Kanata, Domhnall Gleeson as General Hux, Mark Hamill as Luke, and Billy Dee Williams as Lando.

Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.

When a trailer reveals so much its generally not a good sign but I think it will be the most visually stunning Star Wars movie to date. It's the kind of movie made to be seen on the big screen. But Disney still won't get my money!

There's a lot of hate in the comments for the new Star Wars films and even some, seemingly, wishing George Lucas was involved. Like he's some kind of genius scriptwriter.

He did a lot for the film industry and I'll always be grateful for the world he created but he kind of lost his magic towards the end.

These new films are not perfect and there have been things I think should have been left out but I've enjoyed them on the whole and I'm excited to see how this one plays out.

Lets forget about all the negative comments from everyone who wants George Lucas back but also complains about the prequels being being horrible and focus instead on the clip of the Millenium Falcon leading a ship armada in space. Is the the Ghost on the right? Am I really the first to notice this? Might we finally see Hera Syndula in the films?

I've enjoyed all the Disney Star Wars movies, but I loved TLJ. It was the only one of these new movies with any balls. Rian Johnson left the franchise poised to move forward into new territory, but fan backlash spooked the suits. Now they seem to be doubling down on nostalgic fan service, and I worry their attempt to please everyone will ultimately please no one.

That sounds pretty negative, but I'm still going to see it. I even expect to enjoy it, just on a more superficial level than TLJ.

There's no anticipation, no intrigue or plot threads, no character arcs or momentum... and they know this is a problem, thats why this trailer was nothing but emotional nostalgia probing. The scene with C3PO, bringing back Palpatine, and then literally having Rey look directly into the camera (at you) with tears in her eyes, as a swooshy rendition of the classic SW theme plays and Luke and Leia say "The force will be with you, always."

It's heavy handed emotional manipulation to get your money because they have literally NOTHING to give us after making a movie telling us to forget the past and literally killed the good old characters for no real story purpose. They have betrayed everything that made SW so incredible because they think they know better and in their arrogance they've ruined the longevity of one of the most creatively fertile worlds you could play in.

In bringing back Palpatine, an original character who CLEARLY died in an event that wrapped up the character arcs of Luke and Anakin. They will now ruin his character and the weight of importance he played in Anakins story because they've got nothing left to ruin. Their own characters are hollow.

Honestly before The Force Awakens was even announced I had a feeling that they could potentially mess this up given that Lucas wasn't involved for the first time. But I never imagined they would destroy it this much. The Last Jedi alone was one of the most tone-deaf and badly managed big-movies of this callibre I've ever seen for such a big franchise. Its shocking how utterly out of touch the people at the top are with their own properties.

@tidus_ff: I agree with you, I saw the trailer and thought meh. After the last two movies I have no excitement to give for this movie. I'll go see it, but only only on discount Tuesday at my local theater.

This is very spot on, and I couldn't agree more or have said it better myself... sadly.

What the hell is happening in the storyline again? What's the focus? I don't feel connected to any of the characters or what is happening at all. It all seems so generic, messy, and un-original.

Meh... I just want to see Clone Wars season 7 that's what i've been waiting for, Force Awakens failed to get me invested in the new characters and Last Jedi destroyed any expectation for his film because it felt like everything wrapped up in Last Jedi, apart from being dull there was nothing to leave me interested in the next episode.
they just need to defeat Kylo Ren, also i LOATHE when characters are brought back to life for the excuse of prolonging a plot in this case another film.
i hate it in comics, and any form of media. so that was the killer for me right there lol

CLone wars on the other hand has left me wanting since Asoka left the jerdi order and ive been wanting to see what Dave filoni had planned leading up to order 66. the lost episodes werent enough for me. im excited for Clone Wars season 7, this..i can wait for it to hit the internet lol

i recommend anyone who hsnt seen CLone Wars check it out, its definitely the best thing prequel era came out with

@alastor529: That was because J.J. Abrams and Rian are idiots and Kathline Kennedy was a shame you had source material you had notes from Gerorge Lucas. You had everything you needed to create a killer Star Wars Trilogy and you decided ahh no one will notice if you do what we want I dont have time to do research on source material. Star Wars geeks are stupid to them and they dont care about the fans they just want to tell us what to think.

The most interesting parts are callbacks to the original trilogy. Whether you like the new movies or hate them, you have to admit that’s a problem.

@Cikatriz_ESP: The use of the original characters and trilogy was to get previous fans to see the movie the entire franchise is a gimmick to make money not continue a franchise they got the right and just put movies out and I know poor George is kicking himself in the arse now thinking stupid, stupid, stupid. No amount of money could get me to sell off my life work to anyone who won't respect my intellectual property.

How desperate is Disney to dredge up Palpatine. Next they will somehow work in Darth Vader. They have zero new ideas and are desperate to wring every scrap of cash out of the franchise before people give up on it entirely.

@Thanatos2k: Zombie Darth Vader would of actually been kinda interesting. Like Snoke resurrecting his corpse as a puppet due to Kylo being a pathetic apprentice.

I just can't get excited for it. On top of all the nothing that happened in TLJ, bringing Palpatine back just doesn't feel right.
