A new Star Trek TV show focusing on the characters of Captain Christopher Pike, Mr. Spock, and Number One is on the way. Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, and Rebecca Romijn will reprise their roles from Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 for the new series, which is titled Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

The show has been given a full season order by the streaming service CBS All Access. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will be set a decade before the original Star Trek series and will follow Pike, Spock, and Number One on adventures around the galaxy in the Enterprise. In a statement, CBS All Access head of programming Julie McNamara said, "Fans fell in love with Anson Mount, Rebecca Romijn, and Ethan Peck's portrayals of these iconic characters when they were first introduced on Star Trek: Discovery last season. This new series will be a perfect complement to the franchise, bringing a whole new perspective and series of adventures to Star Trek."

Now Playing: 11 Times Star Trek Predicted The Future

There has been much demand for Mount to reprise his role of Pike, ever since Discovery Season 2 finished its run in April 2019. There was a fan petition for him to be given his own show, and in an interview with SyFy Wire last December, Mount suggested that he would love to return to the role. Mount is the fourth actor to play Pike, following Jeffrey Hunter in the original Star Trek pilot, Sean Kenney in the '60s series, and Bruce Greenwood in JJ Abrams' 2009 reboot movie.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is one of several Star Trek shows on the way. Discovery Season 3 has finished shooting and according to editor Scott Gamzon is currently being finished remotely while Hollywood is shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Picard Season 2 has been greenlit, and a show focusing on Michelle Yeoh's Discovery character Georgiou, titled Section 31, is in development. There's also two animated series, one titled Lower Decks and one for Nickelodeon, in the works.

Well, if the show sucks - and, if Kurtzman is involved, I think that's unavoidable - at least the RLM postmortem should be entertaining.

@thedarklinglord: Did they ever cover the finale of Picard? Or was it just so bad they had to stop watching it?

@mogan: Sadly, no, they left off right before the finale. I don't know if that's because it finally broke Rich or because that was around the time the world went to hell. But since there's going to be a second season of Picard, and I don't think Mike is capable of just not watching something with Star Trek in the name, I expect they'll cover that finale eventually.

Though it started okay, I really didn't care for "Discovery." I'm mostly pleased with "Picard." That said, Anson (and before him, Jason Isaacs) was the best thing about Discovery, and I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.

Star Trek is on fire in these past few years! I don't think I've ever seen that many shows running at once even back in the good old days of TNG, VYG and DS9.

I liked Picard and Discovery for the most part and I hope those new shows succeed in keeping the ball rolling for the franchise.

@couly: I have zero faith in Alex Kutzman's ability to create Star Trek that isn't hot garbage.

@tsunami2311: I would love these shows on CBS (free) but are the viewing totals high enough to support it?

What I did this year was, signed up for their free month (due to the pandemic they kept adding extra months) and got through Discovery (2 seasons), Picard and Twilight Zone (one season each). Then I dropped it.

Next year, I'll let the series and episodes pile up again, then I'll jump back in. If I can't get a free trial, I'll pay to just to binge it all, then drop it once more. That's my plan so far... ;-) Not against the cost of some of the cheaper plans (~$6/month) but my issues is the number of services. Paying for them all and you are back up to ~$50/month or more.

Sweet. The only characters along with Saru i liked from Discovery. They added so much needed depth to the second season. Both pike and Spock were great casts
