New Spider-Man swinging onto DS, GBA

Activision announces that a new webslinger adventure, Spider-Man: Battle for New York, will ship for Nintendo's portables this fall.

By now, virtually any Marvel Comics fans worth their salt have seen the trailer for Spider-Man 3. But while the third installment in the Sam Raimi-directed blockbuster film series isn't due until May 2007, gamers will get a new webslinger adventure later this year--on portables, anyway.

Today, Activision announced an all-new title, Spider-Man: Battle for New York, for the Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance. Developed by Australia-based Torus Games (Fantastic 4 for the GBA), the game has not yet been rated or priced but is slated for release this fall.

Based on the Spider-Man comic books, Spider-Man: Battle for New York pits the red-and-blue-suited super-arachnophile against his old foe, the Green Goblin. However, unlike other Spider-Man games, this title will let gamers play as either the titular superhero or his armored nemesis. Their respective goals will be to save and destroy New York City using gravity-defying acrobatics and missile and web attacks.

Heavy on action, Battle for New York will offer gamers an assortment of combination moves to use in combat. It will also incorporate role-playing elements, allowing players to customize their villain or hero with various powers. Gameplay on the DS will take advantage of the handheld's touch-sensitive screen, where players will engage in "spider sense" minigames, and its Wi-Fi connectivity, which will allow for head-to-head ad hoc multiplayer battles.

I still play older GBA games(newer ones are mostly kid games). Im looking forward to the DS version of this game, but i'm worried about the GBA one. Anyone play USM on GBA? As much as I loved the other USM games, especially on DS, the GBA one was pretty bad. Unless they really improve it, I'm not getting my hopes up for it.

I hope it's as good as Ultimate Spiderman. BTW to those who says no one plays GBA anymore I still do so your statement is proved wrong.

GBA is old. But is good news for Spider-Man fan, and Portable gaming fans everywhere.

Not bad, and I still play GBA's!

They shouldn't even bother making a GBA one. Waste of effort because I don't know ANYONE who still plays a GBA.

Torus Games are disastrous.

Unless it's fully 3D, it's gonna suck. Even with full 3D it might still suck. At least it's Wi-Fi, and there's only a handful of those so it shows how easy Wi-Fi is to use for DS games.

What's wrong with Activision, exactly? Everyone else is trying to make good licences now. Make Treyarch do it!

The last 2 Spidey DS games were enjoyably annoying but judging by the change of developer this one will most likely be rubbish.

Just what we need, another crappy Spiderman game for the DS.

Most likely will be a bad game. Was reading it and was think about getting it but when it get to the part about the people that made the Fantastic 4 video game all hope are lost. That game was real bad.But maybe if they take there time it could turn out fine.I just now not to pick it up on launch.
