Paramount Pictures is going big to promote Sonic the Hedgehog 2, announcing today that it will broadcast a new trailer for the sequel during this weekend's Super Bowl 56. But you don't have to wait until Sunday to see the new trailer, as Paramount has already released it before the big game.

"On game day, it all comes down to heads... or tails," the narrator says, making a reference to football and also how the sequel introduces Sonic's pal Tails to the story. As for the trailer itself, it focuses a lot on the villain Knuckles, who is voiced by Idris Elba. "Sonic the hedgehog, you are no match for me," Knuckles says in the video. "It is my destiny to destroy you."

In Sonic 2, Jim Carrey's Dr. Robotnik is back with Knuckles in tow, and they're trying to find a special emerald that can destroy entire civilizations. Sonic and Tails take off on a global adventure to find the emerald first before Robotnik and Knuckles can get to it.

Once again, Ben Schwartz voices Sonic. Colleen O'Shaughnessey, who voices Tails in the Sonic video games, is coming board to voice Tails in the film. James Marsden and Tika Sumpter also reprise their roles from the first film, and original director Jeff Fowler returns as well. Tim Miller, who directed the original Deadpool, returns as a producer on the sequel.

2020's Sonic the Hedgehog enjoyed generally positive review scores and it made more than $319 million worldwide at the box office. The sequel opens in theaters on April 8.

In addition to the Sonic 2 trailer, the Super Bowl will have the first trailer for Amazon's Lord of the Rings TV show, Rings of Power, as well as the debut of Jordan Peele's next film, Nope. There will also be a number of other product ads, and we've rounded up all the ones released so far.

Super Bowl 56 takes place this Sunday, February 13, on NBC. It's a matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are favored to win in real life, but Madden's simulation has predicted the Bengals will pull off the upset.
