After confirming a new entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog series was in development earlier this week, Sega has now revealed a new title will be out in 2017.

Sonic Team executive Takashi Iizuka confirmed the news during a Sonic 25th anniversary event in Tokyo, according to Gematsu.

As rumored, more information about the game will be shared as part of Sonic's big party at San Diego Comic-Con in July. This event, which will also include live performances by the bands Crush 40 and Hyper Potions, will thankfully be livestreamed for all to watch.

"We at Sonic Team are developing a completely new game," Iizuka said earlier this week. "The most important thing is not the fact that the series survived for 25 years, but how many games [were] developed. Our goal [is to] add something new and overcome any potential hardships."

The next Sonic game is Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice, which will arrive for Nintendo 3DS on September 27. The game was previously expected to come out in 2015 before it was delayed. For more on Fire & Ice, check out GameSpot's preview from E3 2016.
