GameSpot News has brand-new screenshots of Eternal Ring for the Sony PlayStation2. The first-person-perspective RPG is being developed by From Software, a company known for popular titles like King's Field and the Armored Core series. The game is set on "the island of no return." The island is separated into eight areas, each of which contains a dragon. These dragons are not necessarily foes - some will actually help you in your quest. Players will have to rely on the magic of different elemental rings - which are used to harness fire, wind, earth, or water - instead of using weapons. And the game deliberately uses a blurred effect on faraway objects to give players a sense of claustrophobia.

Eternal Ring is one of many PlayStation2 launch titles. It is scheduled for a release on March 4, 2000, in Japan.
