Now Playing: SHAZAM! - Official Trailer #2

The new trailer for Shazam is here. The latest DC release is a more comedic superhero adventure than many of the studio's movies. It stars Zachary Levi in the title role and hits theaters in April.

Like the previous trailers it shows teenage Billy Batson gaining incredible powers that transforms him into a full-size adult superhero. We see him learning how to use his new abilities with his pal Freddy, and then facing the evil Doctor Sivana. Although the movie is clearly packed with action and wild VFX, it doesn't look like it takes itself very seriously. Check it out above.

Shazam also stars Asher Angel as Billy, Jack Dylan Grazer as Freddy, and Mark Strong as Sivana. It's directed by David F. Sandberg (Lights Out) and hits theaters on April 5. For more check out everything we know about Shazam! so far.

A big part of the movie is Shazam's distinctive illuminated costume, and in a recent interview, costume designer Leah Butler revealed that the suit came with an extremely high price tag. "Each suit costs, oh boy, upwards of a million? We have ten suits," she said, via SyFy. "There is actually a battery in the back--we luckily had a cape to cover it all up or I don't know where we would have put all that stuff--and it is remotely lit through a switchboard operator. There is wiring throughout the costume. It's a 26-volt AA rechargeable battery. It lasts about two hours at full charge.

"It took 16 weeks to build the costume. We had to scan Zach's body and start building the costume even before he started his very strict regime--his diet and working out."

Shazam! is one of two DC movies arriving in 2019. The Joker prequel movie releases in October and stars Joaquin Phoenix as the Clown Prince of Crime. Beyond that, Suicide Squad spin-off Birds of Prey arrives in February 2020, with Wonder Woman 1984 releasing in July next year. Dates have also been announced for The Batman (June 2021), the James Gunn-written Suicide Squad reboot (August 2021), and Aquaman 2 (December 2022).

The power of Shazam SHOULD have gone to his friend who is a MUCH better recipient.

Well. Funny is subjective. I'm sure that's someone's sense of humor; just not mine. I like wit. If you can see a joke coming, it wasn't witty. It's not as bad as Deadpool, at least.

@aegis_kleais: Right, because the whole baby-legs man-junk joke was totally predictable and not at all witty...same with the rest of it. Every joke just telegraphed from a mile away? LOL. Gimme a break. Meh. To each his own, but this smells like a whole lot of "only the cool kids know to be negative".

There were some funny parts in there but hilarious is hyperbole.

You're freaking kidding me, right?

There are so many justifiable f-bombs I can throw at this utter garbage right now, it's mindblowing. This is just trash. Absolute trash. A dude in a damn unrealistic, cartoony muscle suit basically playing the exact same "oops, I f*cked something ELSE up" role that Marvel gave us in that dumpster fire they tried to call Spiderman.

I wouldn't even allow anybody to TELL ME anything about this garbage after they've seen it. I feel way dumber after watching this garbage.

@externalpower43: Dude, I guarantee you, there's not a god that anybody can think up that would be able to reanimate my long dead corpse to FORCE me to watch this crap.

I don't bother with comedies. And I've always had an issue with it in comic book movies...even though it's asinine to expect there NOT to be attempts at humor when you have Tony Stark anywhere. That's just a ME thing. I would never hold that over anybody's head if comedy is their thing. It's just not MINE. But THIS abortion? H-E-L-L-L-L-L-L NO!

I understand DC going the comedy route as being all dark and super serious didn't work out. It does look interesting though, and I prefer it to anything Disney touches.

@greaseman1985:

The Bale dark knight films were very good.

This looks fun though

@greaseman1985: Even though most Disney/Marvel films have been far superior in every aspect over DCiarrhea. Yep. I know that it's hip to bash Disney these days but there are smarter ways to do it.

@timthegem: Marvel movies are actually much better, both commercially and critically. It's a pity too, DC have so many iconic superheroes locked down to their terrible management and movie making.

DC are really turning things around shouldn't of started with loads of team up movies and just built the universe up like this with standalone movies before the team up.

Totally hype for this Captain Marvel more then the other Captain Marvel so yeah, April is gonna be so much fun! Wish it was Black Adam over Dr. Sivana as the villain but other then that, I'm on-board.

First time I am actually just going to enjoy a DC movie for what it is in a long time.

Why?

Because they're not trying too hard with this one. The character is already written, already has a back story, they don't need to make their mark or put a spin on it. Just tell the story that already exists.

Also I've always liked the character of Shazam. The whole concept has always appealed to me of this kid with powers, how morals and ethics have no maturity level, but the kid still acts like a kid sometimes. It's like the movie "Big" but...superhuman.

Also in Justice League (animated), Shazam told the founding members what tools they were and then did a mic drop/quit. Mad respect.

This movie looks much better than Captain SJW.

Avatar image for esqueejy

@gzaface: Since there's no such movie, yeah, much better.

There's nothing SJW about Captain Marvel if that's what you're vaguely referring to though....only angry, resentful delusions about imaginary ulterior motives falsely attributed to it because it stars a female superhero.

Avatar image for gzaface

@esqueejy: If you can't see what is right in front your eyes, it's not my fault, that woman is a SJW and is forcing her political agenda into the movie with the complicity of the director (Anna Boden) and Disney of course. Go watch the movie, recommend the movie, praise the movie, and then after some time, cry like a bitch when those leftist come to bite you in the ass, as they always do.
