One of the big announcements from Nintendo's E3 2019 briefing was that CD Project Red's celebrated RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is releasing on Nintendo Switch this year. Now, Nintendo has shown more of the game by way of releasing new screenshots.

Images posted on Nintendo's website show a series of characters, including Geralt, in a variety of environments and situations. he images are stamped with the message, "Captured on Nintendo Switch." You can see them all in the image gallery below.

The Nintendo Switch version of The Witcher 3 is developed by Saber Interactive, which also worked on Halo: The Master Chief Collection, World War Z, and another new release Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered.

The Switch is a comparably less powerful console than the PS4 and Xbox One, and the game only runs at 540p in handheld mode and 720p while docked with dynamic resolution. UI coordinator Alvin Liu told Video Game Chronicle that Saber had to make "hardware trade-offs" for the Switch edition, including shorter draw distance and less foliage. That being said, Liu said CD Projekt Red is "really happy" with how The Witcher 3 plays on Switch.

While the game might not look as good on Switch, it contains all of the content from The Witcher 3's other versions on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. It's coming to Switch with the Complete Edition that includes the base game and all DLC, including the major expansions Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

The Witcher 3 launches for Switch sometime in 2019 though a release date hasn't been announced yet.

It gets the job done. I feel like in motion it's probably not too noticeable, either.

Would I get it? Idk. I think it's nice to have the option on the Switch, however.

This looks great for a switch port. Yes it had to get downgraded. I'm not sure why people get upset over it. Its portable and a great game.

@reubensitos: I'm sure people are more upset over the fact that they probably have to pay full price for a lesser experience, when you can get the much better experience on Ps4 for about 15-20 bucks..

Looks awesome. visuals are entirely secondary, it's a stellar game that deserves to be played on any platform.

I'm impressed they even got it running on the Switch, and I'm so happy that they fit everything on the cartridge instead of having download codes. There's still a lot of areas that don't have broadband, but still enjoy gaming so this is a win.

I wonder if saber will get a cut from the game's sales, or if this is a one and done outsourcing contract.

Some obvious compromises but still looks decent especially considering how big this game is. Question is, do I want to give it another playthrough just for the sake of the Switch. All expansions might be the selling point seeing as how I didn't play any of them

Squeezing the entire game with both expansions into 32gb is pretty damn impressive even with the cutbacks.

@Carpetfluff: I hope that storage is cheap enough now not to be forced to download half the game.

Japan got FFX & X2 all on cart, same with Bayonetta and RE Revelations 1 & 2, we got screwed on that because of the cost and just got lame download codes in a box

Let's be real here, no one owns a Switch as their main console...other than kids. Resolution or FPS are not a Switch player's priority. That said, I have seen some beefy rigs not want to stream Novigrad because of the frame drops and even on the X1X it ain't pretty, I have no idea how Switch 'gamers' will be able to approach Novigrad or the swamp.

@Daelusca: Think they may have cut it down considerably to size in order to make it playable. Let's not be confused, this game will only look good... For a Switch game. I can't wait to see it as I'm sure it will get done but the graphics comparisons between the Switch version and the console and PC versions will be hilarious to watch

Are those screenshots are actual gameplay videos of the game in action because I wouldn't be surprised if they were the latter.

This is impressive considering the platform but it highlights the need for a more powerful upgraded Switch model. One that can run games closer to 1080p while docked

@Spartan_418: It also highlights how unnecessary super high resolutions are. If knocking a game down a tier allows it to run at 60fps with most effects intact, then let it. Forcing games to run at 1080p, and soon 4K, is only making things more complicated. I'm tired of hearing fans blowing and buying bigger hard drives just to fit 100gig games. Most of them suck anyway.

Seriously. My favourite games this gen have all been on the small size.

@Barighm: It's not just downgrading the resolution. Those textures are SERIOUSLY downgraded. Besides that expecting a game to run at 1080p isn't unrealistic. It's not like 1080p is a new standard. 4k though I agree with.

@Barighm: Which is why I said "closer to 1080p" rather than demanding the game run at a specific resolution. The other console versions of Witcher 3 are mostly 30fps so I wouldn't expect any Switch version to exceed that.
