New Riddick game in the works

Vin Diesel says the team behind Escape from Butcher Bay has been reassembled to create a third installment in the series.

A new Chronicles of Riddick game is in development, actor Vin Diesel revealed in a new interview with ScreenCrush (via Eurogamer). The untitled new game is in development by Starbreeze Studios team members who worked on 2004's Escape from Butcher Bay.

"My diehard gamers want [Tigon Studios] to deliver the third chapter in the Riddick game," Diesel said. "And we just over the past couple of months, just this year, reassembled that team from Starbreeze that brought Escape from Butcher Bay to create the third game."

No details regarding platforms or a release date were mentioned. It does not appear that the new game will tie in with Riddick, which released in theaters last week.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay was released in 2004 for the original Xbox and PC. Sequel Assault on Dark Athena launched in 2009 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

I hope that the 3rd game will have a more prison-ish setting like the 1st one, Dark Athena was cool and all but it didn't feel like you were trapped at all.

To me that setting of you being trapped and finding a way out was the most appealing thing from the 1st game.

@MegaX- Riddick doesn't just take place in prison though. I wouldn't mind exploring outside some as well. maybe planetary travel.

Awesome, Riddick was my first Riddick movie that I saw Saturday. I hope they release it for next gen though so the current gen consoles don't hold it back.

Sweet! Loved the first... except the 5 cds to install.

The remake/sequel was pretty good, but they gimped the difficulty. The original was a lot harder.

Starbreeze just did the awesome Brothers: A tale of two sons game, not to mention the awesome first Darkness game. I hope the game turns out awesome though. Butcher Bay was one of Xbox's best games.

@G4m3r0uTL4wZ The first Riddick game is a FPS with a combination of First-person shooting, hand-to-hand combat, and stealth gameplay, as well as an implementation of adventure elements, including optional side-missions, and collectibles. It's very story driven, but more in a Deus Ex, Half-life, let the player discover most of the story, sort-of way. Assault on Dark Athena is more of a straight-forward FPS, and it's not nearly as memorable or enjoyable as EFBB.
