New Riddick game in the works

Vin Diesel says the team behind Escape from Butcher Bay has been reassembled to create a third installment in the series.

A new Chronicles of Riddick game is in development, actor Vin Diesel revealed in a new interview with ScreenCrush (via Eurogamer). The untitled new game is in development by Starbreeze Studios team members who worked on 2004's Escape from Butcher Bay.

No Caption Provided

"My diehard gamers want [Tigon Studios] to deliver the third chapter in the Riddick game," Diesel said. "And we just over the past couple of months, just this year, reassembled that team from Starbreeze that brought Escape from Butcher Bay to create the third game."

No details regarding platforms or a release date were mentioned. It does not appear that the new game will tie in with Riddick, which released in theaters last week.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay was released in 2004 for the original Xbox and PC. Sequel Assault on Dark Athena launched in 2009 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

@charlieboomboom Ironic that you're on a page about Chronicles of Riddick, because Butcher Bay not only is a fantastic game based off of movies, it's even far better than the films. You need to play Butcher Bay.

@charlieboomboom The Riddick games have been the few games considered to be exceptions to the rule of movie games that suck. Butcher Bay was critically acclaimed when it came out. If I am not mistaken, Assault on Dark Athena had positive reviews, but no a s high as Butcher Bay. It also came with an enhanced remake of Butcher Bay using Dark Athena's mechanics. I beat Butcher Bay twice. Play it sometime.

I still have Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay for the original Xbox and Chronicles of Riddick Assault on Dark Athena for Xbox 360. So glad that a third installment is being made. Should be ready in 2014/2015 for Xbox One. hopefully there will be a Playstation 4 version.

Love the Riddick Franchise. Looking forward to a new game on Next-Gen consoles. My only hope is they keep the elements that made the first one great. Stealth, physical first-person engagement, and RPG-esque social interaction made this a standout title and quite possibly the best use of a movie license in the videogame industry. Take a bit of a Deus Ex: HR approach and give players a few different play style options to open the game to a wider audience without alienating the original fans.

As for things to avoid in the next game, I hope they scrap the multiplayer that was shoehorned into AoDA to focus more on a great storyline and they make the game less linear and less script-driven. The first game, great as it was, was very predictable because enemies popped grenades, took up defensive positions, and followed the same path in every playthrough. There were a large number of paths for Riddick to take to his objective and I hope that can be expanded on further.

@DeViLzzz

I'm sure there will be a PC version. Without a doubt. The vast majority of 3rd party games get released on PC nowadays and the other Riddick games have been released on PC so they know there is a fanbase there. I'm not worried about it at all.

Make it next gen. The Riddick world seems to work better in video games than in motion picture. I have yet to see the latest one though.

I played butcher bay the day it was released on xbox - very worth it - that team back then not only took advantage of the raw power of the console but its art direction, settings, and themes are hard to beat even today. That team back then was amazing, reminds me of the Bioshock series.

@jenovaschilld Bioshock is as generic of an FPS as it gets, and no the story was NOT by any means incredible. That "twist" was so underwhelming it made me sell the game without a second thought.

The original Riddick game on the other hand, I totally agree. They really did something new and made it as complete and polished as possible.

Vin Diesel alone tripled his time in VO just to make sure it sounded right.

I loved butcher bay and feel bad pirating it as a kid. So when I heard a remake was coming out. I had my wallet ready. Then that TAGES DRM shit got added. And I never bought or played it :c I just hope they don't screw it up with shitty DRM this time :/

Man I hope they do it right. I loved the open world aspect of that game. I had literally like a million options to do something. Something you only see in old games these days. Also why I'm looking forward to MGS V. From the trailers they seem to be doing it right.

@060390 @3v1LR0n1N MMO in Riddick dark verse, that would be nice. But sooo many MMO are crap that I'm afraidit would ruin that setting.

I played Butcher Bay three times. It was ahead of it's time and an all-time classic.

For my money, it's the first modern title to prove licensed movie games don't have to suck.

I hope Starbreezee/Tigon chooses a better publisher this time around. Don't need to see another forced rush job like the last time with Atari.

Awesome. The Riddick games are some of my favorite FPS's and put Starbreeze on my map. I was actually thinking, while watching Riddick, how cool it would be to have another game, but one more along the lines of Pitch Black/Riddick.
