Pretty ho-hum bullshit compared to what M$ is doing with Gamepass.

I'll be interested to see if Sony rises to the situation and matches the value GP offers.

@Richardthe3rd: Gamepass won't stay like this forever. It's a life-saving buoy for MS. Once their coffers are filled, the service will change. It's been seen countless times already with online services. It will be more expensive and you probably won't have access to the '' premium '' games unless you pay more.

The service is really nice right now, we're all benefiting from it greatly, but don't be fooled into thinking that MS will keep that service intact for the coming years.

@Fandango_Letho: pure speculation, and you dont have a crystal ball or any way of knowing.

What we do know; M$ is doing this now and Sony isnt.

@Fandango_Letho:

Exactly this. Sooner or later, they'll jack the price.

It's not as if Netflix is still $8 a month anymore.

@promeym: Netflix and Gamepass are a steal at their prices. I would gladly pay a few bucks more for Gamepass as a mature service. I also have no qualms about paying extra for the Netflix I have now over the Netflix I had years ago.

I have no idea where you live but inflation has gone up buy almost 50% here since the early days of Netflix streaming so it's no big surprise.

@Richardthe3rd: First of all it's just the beginning, it's obviously not going to be a huge lineup. Second of all the games are actually AAA titles, i'm sure they could've also filled the lienup with free indie games and boast about how big it is. Third of all it's included in the subscription, you don't need to pay extra like xbox game pass or ultimate or whatever.

@durantftw: XBox gamepass includes Xbox Gold, which is the same standard service, so you're wrong.

Buy gamepass, get access to every first party exclusive the day it releases for as long as you're subscribed.

For many people, your cost to play games drops to 15.00 per month.

Sony on the other hand is increasing the cost of their games and not including new first party titles in the service.

Sonys plan sucks hard compared to Gamepass. A bunch of old PS4 titles that have been available for years isnt as attractive as getting brand new content as it releases.

False. Xbox Game Pass doesn't include Gold, you either purchase Gold separately or buy the Ultimate Game Pass.

"Sony on the other hand is increasing the cost of their games"

False, both Sony and Xbox will increase the price of the new generation games, not the current games, there's no difference.

"and not including new first party titles in the service."

False, most of the games in the collection are first party titles.

"A bunch of old PS4 titles that have been available for years isnt as attractive as getting brand new content as it releases"

Don't expect the new Halo in the Game Pass either. ;)

@durantftw: gamepass ultimate includes Gold, literally just google it. It's on the front page. 14.99 for Ultimate.

Halo Infinite will be available to Gamepass holders Day 1:

https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.inverse.com/gaming/halo-infinite-release-date-story-trailer-xbox-series-x/amp

"False, most of the games in the collection are first party titles."

Not new releases literally on the day they release.

Gears 5

Gears Tactics

Halo Infinite

Battletoads

Ori and The Will of the Wisps

All available day 1 to gamepass holders.

Let me know if Sony's doing anything like that (they arent).

@Richardthe3rd: It's funny how you show me that I was right but you still don't see it.

I said that Xbox Game Pass doesn't include Xbox Live Gold, you need to either purchase Xbox Live separately, or purchase the Ultimate pass. And then you show me an article that shows me that you need to purchase Ultimate in order to get Gold. No s**t, Sherlock. xD

"Not new releases literally on the day they release."

True, they won't put the games into the collection on the day of release, unless they're somehow desperate for subscribers or their games are not selling well...

Who gives a shit what the reason is? You're actually advocating for operating in an ecosystem where your dollar doesn't go as far?

Microsoft is providing the better, overall lower cost service here and it's not even close. You can buy Gamepass Ultimate and probably never buy a full price game the whole time you're on it, because you're getting access to most of the major exclusive releases for that platform AS THEY RELEASE. The cost to play is MUCH lower than buying PS Plus AND the games you want.

And yeah, you did say "Buy gold or Ultimate," my bad. Doesn't change the fact that Ultimate is still a much, much better service than anything Sony is doing.

Sony needs to step it up.

If Microsoft start releasing day one all their AAA titles there, than this is very true, it's much cheaper with the pass.

"Sony needs to step it up."

That's what they seem to be doing with this collection thing, hopefully they will improve that collection with time.

Microsoft on the other hand really need to step up regarding games, no point in having an awesome game service if nobody cares about your games. I'm not saying it's the case, I'm saying it's not far from being the case. Sony has been on another level for the past years.

They already have released on day one, and have already confirmed they will continue to put new first party titles on Gamepass on the day of release.

Gamepass has over 10 million subs. They're doing just fine.

PS. You can also stream over 150 Gamepass titles to your Android phone if you have Gamepass Ultimate. (so you don't even need to own an Xbox to play on Xbox)

@wahsobe: This. Gamepass is a superior service and so long as Microsoft can continue offering so much value and market it well I really think it's going to only continue to take market share.

@durantftw: Plus is an paid subscription so in some aspects it is like Game Pass Ultimate in some areas as I subscribe to PS Plus. You still do not get to play new games. I like Plus as well but I like Game Pass format.

@lonewolf1044: I thought the equal to PS Plus is Xbox Live. And PsNow equals gamepass? Comparison seems a little off.

@allencc3: PS Now is a cloud streaming service, yes you can play the games locally on PS4, but that's just a side bonus. So I wouldn't compare it to Game Pass. This future PS Plus Collection sounds more like a Game Pass.

@durantftw: The correct answer is yes PSnow is Sony's equivalent to Gamepass and PS+ is Sony's equivalent to Xbox Live.

There is little difference between these two services other than the quality of what is being offered. Xbox takes the lead in Gamepass, and currently Live vs PS+ are at a stalemate. This new offer will give Sony a slight edge for PS+ on the PS5, mostly to the benefit of newcomers.

@lonewolf1044: Well yes but the difference is they didn't make an extra PS Plus Pass or PS Plus Ultimate, it's all included in the current PS Plus subscription.

PS: the xbox game pass started about 3 years ago, not 7 or 8

This is cool for people that did not own a PS4 or somehow skipped over all the first party games on the system. Sony have already said that it is testing all the PS4 titles on PS5, so this feature is not taking the place of backward comparability. I really do not understand the complaints. If something is not for you, then just accept that it isn't Sony does not need an answer to game pass. Xbox hardware sales have not increased due to gamepass, so why should Sony care? Sony and Microsoft are marketing to different people. Microsoft is becoming the Walmart of gaming. Sony specializes in single player gaming. If you want to stretch a dollar as far as it can go, but the quality may be hit or miss, then Microsoft is the one to go to. If you play by yourself a lot and care and quality is of great importance to you, then Sony is the one to go to.

Am I saying that Microsoft is devoid of all quality? No. Let's face it. Most of what Microsoft has can be obtained elsewhere, but it may be cheaper to do so through Microsoft. Does Sony put out games that are meh sometimes? Yes. However, if I am looking for single player games that are of high caliber, I am going to choose PlayStation over Xbox. Sony and Microsoft are no longer directly competing with one another.

@laurenriley3332: This is cool for people that owned PS4 too. I didn't get the chance to play Persona 5, Until Dawn and Resident Evil 7. And I'm pretty sure this is not a static collection, they will keep adding to it.

@durantftw: I do not know. I take it that this collection service will be reminiscent of PS Plus in 2013 where there was 12 static games for the year and 5-6 games that rotated per month. The key thing will be how often the games are updated.
