Do you people realize this is an article from 2012 and that model is the (already released early this year) PS3 Super Slim??

Maybe it's the pic, but it still looks too huge to even be a first iteration "Slim." Remember the PS2 Slim? That thing was as small as a PS2 game box. *nostalgia*

Makes sense, Sony is doing what it always does at the end of a hardware cycle. A year out or so from new tech, release a cheaper, smaller version of the existing console. Sure, the Wii U will be the spotlight this Christmas, but this is Sony's last sprint for a few more sales from their existing tech.

in this photo it seems ugly. but history proves that the most important factor is the price, which i think it should not be more than 150 box. wiiu is a big disaster for ps3.

If it is $149.99 I will finally buy one just for the kids tv room for blu-rays, netflix and the occasional game or two.

well i already have a 40gb old model (with a 350gb HDD) and a 160gb slim (with a 500gb HDD) so i won't get another one but this is good news for people who don't have one or want to replace their old one

PS. if this version has backwards compatibility with PS2 game then i will get it

I have the phat one that doesnt have the door for the memory cards 160 gig.. works perfectly.. why ANOTHER model.. stop at the ps3 slim save that time for something more needy

Look like the ridges on the new unit's face plate allow a sliding mechanism to reveal the disc inside, plus it allows best surface-area for seasoning just in case you want to deep fry your console (Xbox-fanboy/girl: C'mon you know you wanna.)

Shame. It was Sony's relaxed attitude towards older models that attracted me away from the Xbox where, immediately, no new games were made for the machine the day the 360 was released.

I got the PHAT 60gb model because it also could play PS2 titles (and had SACD playback compatibility). Sadly my PHAT only lasted three years after which it continually broke down. My new Slim has lost the PS2 and SACD abilities much to my regret, so I may sell these disks.

One thing is for certain, if I buy a PS4 at all (which seems unlikely in these rumours are true) my experience with the my First Gen (PHAT 60gb) PS3 means I won't be getting the first Gen PS4. I think I will probably wait for one of the 3rd of 4th gen. models when they arrive.

There's no hurry. I can't imagine what fantastic leaps over the PS3 the PS4 is likely to have in any case. The PS3 does it all for me already**. I reckon new games will still be made for the PS3 post PS4 for a while, just like new PS2 games have been coming out every now and then post PS3.

** a built in Retina display (3D of course) would be a good start - so I don't need hog out 43" plasma display.

well if I didn't already have a PS3 original that never gets played or ever breaks down.... I'd probably just get right into the "next Generation" with a PC.... Like I am now... waiting for someone to challenge a "next generation" capable PC.

kinda makes early adopter feel good about themselves, the PS3 is getting uglier and uglier, yes it maybe cheaper but i reckon it will have less features than the current slim.
