New Pokemon Snap Overview Trailer Shows Off New Mechanics And Environments
Nintendo's lengthy new trailer for New Pokemon Snap provides more details on how research levels work and more.
Nintendo has shared a lengthy new overview trailer for New Pokemon Snap. The video runs for over six minutes and gives us a closer look at the upcoming photography game ahead of its release next week, delving into the overall gameplay loop and detailing some new mechanics.
New Pokemon Snap is set in the Lental region, which is made up of several different islands running the gamut from dense jungles to pristine beaches. As in the original N64 game, you'll travel through these environments aboard an on-rails vehicle, taking photographs of the various Pokemon you encounter along the way.
The overarching goal of New Pokemon Snap is to aid Professor Mirror in unraveling the mystery of the Illumina phenomenon, which is causing Pokemon and vegetation around the Lental region to glow. After each expedition, Professor Mirror will judge the photos you took and assign them a score.
As the overview video details, one of the new elements in New Pokemon Snap is research levels. Each island in the game has a research level that you can improve by photographing Pokemon. In turn, this will cause new Pokemon to appear around that island and open up alternate routes through the level.
The overview trailer also gives us a quick glimpse at a new area: a gloomy forest that seems to be home to some Ghost Pokemon. You can watch the full trailer above. New Pokemon Snap launches for Nintendo Switch on April 30. For more on the game, be sure to check out our New Pokemon Snap preorder guide. In other Pokemon news, Pokemon Go is celebrating the launch of the Switch spin-off with a New Pokemon Snap event running from April 29 to May 2. Throughout that event, Pokemon found in the Lental region will be spawning more frequently than usual, and you'll have your first chance to catch Shiny Smeargle. There will also be snapshot-based Research tasks and a new camera item for your avatar.
