We've gotten our hands on a few new screens of Electronic Arts Square's first game for the PlayStation2 console.

While X-Fire was one of the less impressive games when we played it at this past fall's Tokyo Game Show, Electronic Arts Square has some major time and money invested in the game to make sure it sells. So it's likely that we'll be seeing some major improvements over the next few months.

A PlayStation2 3D corridor shooter similar in style to GoldenEye for the Nintendo 64, X-Fire will make use of some nifty new PlayStation2 effects. In fact, for X-Fire, EA Square has partnered with Animation Science, a company with expertise in the TV/film 3D graphics field. So, no doubt X-Fire will be a title to keep an eye on over the next few months, as it could end up turning out to be a killer app for the PS2. In any case, today we got our hands on a few new screens of the game. These show off some of the characters being generated in real time, and they are definitely worth a look.

X-Fire is currently slated for a release alongside the PlayStation2 when it launches on March 4, 2000, in Japan. The game will also release alongside the US PlayStation2 launch in fall 2000.
