New On Shudder In September: 61 Days Of Halloween, Glenn Danzig's Horror Movie, And More

This year has been a bit rough, but luckily, we're nearing Halloween, a time when horror makes sense. AMC's horror-themed streaming service Shudder--which recently had a huge hit on its hands with the movie Host--has a lot planned not only for September but for October as well.

Shudder has announced 61 Days of Halloween, a two-month-long celebration of horror, beginning on September 1. There are plenty of movies coming to the service during this time. "We usually call October our 'Super Bowl month,' but this year we're starting on Sept. 1, so the 61 Days of Halloween will be our Super Bowl combined with Mardi Gras and Christmas," explained Shudder's general manager Craig Engler. "We start on day one with one of the biggest horror movies of the year, Nicolas Cage in Richard Stanley’s mind-bending Color Out of Space--no less than the best cinematic adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft ever--and roll on through to Halloween with a big premiere every week. And then we’re going to finish October with a surprise that will have horror fans everywhere talking."

Coming on September 1 is Bram Stoker's Dracula directed by Francis Ford Coppolla. Starring Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, and Keanu Reeves, the film follows a barrister (lawyer) who is imprisoned by Dracula. From there, Dracula wreaks havoc on all those who come in contact with him. It is easily the most-mainstream and known of everything coming to the service.

However, where Shudder shines is the lesser-known haunts that are worth your time. If you're in the mood for a little Nicolas Cage--and who isn't?--Color Out of Space arrives on September 1 as well. Based on the H.P. Lovecraft sort of the same name, the film follows a family on a farm, and meteorite lands on their property. Of course, this space rock has an alien organism attached to it which affects the family's mind and transforms them.

There are some classic Vincent Price movies landing in October, along with the follow-up to Timo Tjahanto's May the Devil Take You Too. However, one of the most interesting movies coming to Shudder in either of the month's is Glenn Danzig's Verotika, which lands on September 24. Called "The Room of horror movies," A former singer of the Misfits directs a trilogy of erotic horror stories, which Rolling Stone called "absolutely bonkers."
