New On HBO Max In December 2022: Doom Patrol Season 4, The Banshees Of Inisherin, Hellraiser

November is nearly done, and 2022 is not far behind. One other thing to be thankful about before the year is fully behind us? HBO Max is bringing a lot of quality content to the platform in the final few weeks of this year. Check out everything coming to HBO Max in December below, plus some of our recommendations.

Doom Patrol, the series based on the DC Comics superhero team of the same name, was renewed for Season 4 about this time last year. It's finally coming back, starting December 8. According to a release, a synopsis for the upcoming batch of episodes reads: "[Season 4] opens with the team unexpectedly traveling to the future to find an unwelcome surprise. Faced with their imminent demise, the Doom Patrol must decide once and for all which is more important: their own happiness or the fate of the world?" Check out our review of Season 1.

The Banshees Of Inisherin makes the jump from theaters to HBO Max on December 13. The black comedy features the reunion of In Bruges' writer-director Martin McDonagh, plus duo Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson. Banshees takes place in a small fictional Irish isle in 1923 during the Irish Civil War--but is more concerned about Farrell and Gleeson's bromance cooling after Gleeson's character decides one day he is done being friends with Farrell's character. It doesn't sound like much of a plot, but it's a great satirical film that goes to a lot of unexpected places.

On December 1, a whole mess of Hellraiser films from across the franchise are hitting HBO Max. Count 'em, six in total: 1992's Hellraiser III Hell on Earth, 1996's Hellraiser IV: Bloodline, 2000's Hellraiser V: Inferno, 2002's Hellraiser: Hellseeker, 2005's Hellraiser VII: Deader, and 2005's Hellraiser: Hellworld. Although it's not the entire franchise--noticeably missing are the 1987 film that started it all, 2011's Hellraiser: Revelations, and 2018's Hellraiser: Judgment--but it's a great way to, in one fell swoop, check out the infamously popular bloody series. (Of course, Hulu is still the exclusive streaming home to this year's new reboot.)
