New Monster Hunter Movie Clip Shows Tony Jaa Firing Exploding Arrow

The video-game adaptation film is due out in December.

PlayStation has released a new short clip from the upcoming Monster Hunter movie, which is holding firm with a December 30 release date. In the clip, Tony Jaa (Master Z: The Ip Man Legacy) looses an arrow at a diablo, a menacing and territorial beast in the video games known to lurk underground. Check out the clip below.

Monster Hunter is written and directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, who has worked on other game-adaptation movies like 1995's Mortal Kombat and 2002's Resident Evil. Over the summer, star Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil) revealed that she and husband Anderson are both "huge" fans of the Capcom series, and that while her character Artemis isn't canon, she is meant to be a "grounded, relatable real-world character who is fresh to the world of Monster Hunter to help create a way into the game's world and lore for newcomers." Anderson has also mentioned that Jovovich's character uses the same weapons and armor that his wife uses in the game.

In addition to Jovovich and Jaa, the film also stars Ron Perlman (Hellboy), rapper T.I. (Ant-Man and the Wasp), and Meagan Good (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues).

Details on the movie's plot are still relatively scarce, aside from broad strokes that Artemis, a member of an elite military force, falls through a portal into a world populated by giant monsters. Teaming with Jaa's character shown above, a hunter, they fight for survival and find a way back home.

she is meant to be a "grounded, relatable real-world character who is fresh to the world of Monster Hunter to help create a way into the game's world and lore for newcomers."

That's half of my problem with this movie. They should have had the balls to make relatable Monster Hunter characters entirely set in the Monster Hunter universe instead of doing this introduction through the eyes of Mila Jovovich's character. Apparently we can't relate and empathize with characters that aren't from our world? Actually, we probably wouldn't, because that requires good writing, and Paul W.S. Anderson is incapable of that, which is my other half of the problem with this movie.

I see Mila Jovovich and Resident Evil automatically comes to mind and since I hated every single one of those movies, it's hard to get excited for this one.

We'll that and the fact the this video doesn't look great, at all.

It's like the took the animation right out of Ryu's victory screen in SF5.
