Activision and id Software today released two new multiplayer maps for Doom 3 on the Xbox. To download the new maps, gamers should fire up the game and follow the appropriate instructions from the menu. The first-person shooter was released in April and was developed by Vicarious Visions, a game studio based in Troy, New York, and responsible for Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy.

The two maps, Surface and Communications, were included in Doom 3's stand-alone expansion, Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil. Communications is set in a Martian warehouse and is full of long corridors and dark corners. Surface is an outdoor industrial yard, with scaffolding and narrow catwalks providing plenty of high-altitude sniping points.

Gamers looking to battle it up after a long weekend may want to rethink their plans. Today, Microsoft announced that Xbox Live would be suspended on Monday, October 24, for up to 24 hours while it undergoes maintenance for its relaunch. The online gaming service is expected to resume online competition the following day.

Doom 3 is rated M for Mature and retails for $29.99. For more information on the game, brave your way to GameSpot's full review.
