Lara Croft: Relic Run, the free-to-play autorunner available on Android and iOS, has amassed 10 million downloads since its release in late May.

The game takes on the 3D endless runner template that has become popular in the mobile games space, where a character is continuously running forward along a linear path, and players must swipe their thumb to duck and dodge oncoming obstacles.

Temple Run, which is widely considered to be one of the founding games of the genre, has been downloaded an estimated one billion times since it broke onto the scene in 2011.

Publisher Square Enix is marking Relic Run's milestone with a new update, which adds a Mountain Pass stage, along with a new snowmobile vehicle and mini-gun. The game is also set to include the “New Demon,” a boss that shoots ice into Lara’s path, creating difficult obstacles that need to be avoided. Other additions to the game include an overhauled tutorial and campaign map.

Relic Run's growing popularity comes ahead of the release of Rise of The Tomb Raider, Crystal Dynamics' sequel to its acclaimed 2013 reboot of the longstanding adventure series. The Rise of the Tomb Raider release date is set for November 10, and will be a console exclusive on Xbox One for twelve months.
