Interplay has revealed details on two of the twelve settings featured in its forthcoming AD&D role-playing game, Icewind Dale.

The first location, called the Dragon's Eye volcano, will be an uncharacteristically hot region in Icewind Dale that is inhabited by lizardmen and the snake-like yuan-ti. Both enjoy the warmer climate and don't take kindly to intruders.

The Severed Hand citadel, the second setting, is an ancient, haunted vestige of magical power, in which the phantom presence of the elves and orcs that fought for control of it ages ago yet remains. Its mysterious origins will be revealed over the course of Icewind Dale.

The Dragon's Eye and Severed Hand regions in the game were created by the art team responsible for the critically acclaimed PlaneScape: Torment. We've managed to wrangle some screenshots and artwork of these two regions.

Icewind Dale is tentatively scheduled for release in the first half of the year.
