IO Interactive's in-development Hitman game will not be on display at E3 2014 next month, the developer confirmed in a post on the game's website today. The studio said it would rather keep working on the game than "divert valuable resources" to show the game before it's ready.

"We've seen a lot of people talking about what we might be bringing to E3 this year. We know the worst thing is to hope for something that doesn't turn up; so we wanted to let you know that our next Hitman is going to be under wraps for a bit longer," the studio said. "We're focusing all of our time and efforts into creating the best possible Hitman game. That's our number one priority and we don't want to divert valuable resources to show something before it's ready."

IO Interactive also provided a status update on the new Hitman game ("We're making great progress," the studio says) and released a piece of concept art that shows off a location in Central Europe. According to IO Interactive, you'll be able to explore the entire building you see in the image, inside and out. For context, IO Interactive says this building by itself is larger than any location in 2012's Hitman Absolution.

Finally, IO Interactive teased that Square Enix Montreal is "pretty close" to announcing not only new updates for mobile game Hitman Go, but also a new Hitman mobile game altogether. "We've been playing it here at the studio and it's a lot of fun," the studio said.

In addition to a new Hitman game, FOX is moving forward on a Hitman movie reboot starring Homeland actor Rupert Friend in the lead role as Agent 47. Friend takes over for Paul Walker, who died in a car crash last year.

you guys who make these kind of games REALLY IMPRESS me because i LOVE sneaky around without alerting others because to me, that's a challenge and i LOVE a good challenge. what's the point of games if they aren't challenging. as i for one LOVE challenges and i LOVE to stealthily sneak up on my clueless victims and take them down by anyway i can. i can't wait for the next Hitman

Talking about the movie, they should bring Timothy Olyphant back...

I think Hitman Absolution is a great game but I definitely prefer some of the older titles. I can't wait to see what the next game is like and just hope they bring back some of the main elements from Blood Money. Thankfully this franchise isn't owned by EA and there's a good chance they will listen to the true fans of Hitman and bring us a game that we've all been waiting for.

The new disguise system (and instinct) WAS stupid but was not much a bother because if you play the games full stealth, you don't need costumes (used one only twice in Absolution and only because pretty much the missions forced you to if you wanted to do it right which by my standards is not being spotted, using no guns unless forced to and not knocking anyone out or killing anyone thats not the target)/ I think i used instinct once and it was for one of the sequence with a costume.

It really bothers me how basically the main point that they made was that the building was bigger than any location in Absolution. Just because the game is bigger doesn't mean it's better. I would rather have a smaller world with more things to do and a more interactive environment than a huge world that's bland and lifeless.

For me << LINK REMOVED >> failed because of the new detection system. I really hole the change it again - though, not necessary back to the first ones.

Avatar image for macaque12

<< LINK REMOVED >> You're right. The fact that every single "person" that's wearing the same uniform that you, ca recognize you in the instant you pass by was really lame.

Avatar image for Foppe

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Indeed, it was a bummer.

New concept art. Holy Sh!t, they're just now getting started on programming the game. This probably won't release for another year.

Avatar image for Navardo95

So its not all 'Murica now!? Thats what I'm talkin about and also from what the devs said about this its going to back to its roots with a big bang and might end up being the ultimate Hitman experience for the core Hitman fans and not for COD 10yr ol babies..

Also magic pockets have been removed, loadouts are back, levels will be largest among any hitman game and won't be broken down into fragments! :D

Hitman Absolution was pretty good, can't wait for the next game.

The Hitman game was very great and game didnt do well and best keep new hitman game underwraps and maybe realse last hitman game for ps4 and xboxone.

Avatar image for Johny_47

That looks bloody incredible, really does, I'm hoping Jesper Kyd does the music for it though unlike with absolution, it'll be another massive shame if he's not.

Avatar image for PcGamingRig

More like blood money please.

Avatar image for Johny_47

@PcGamingRig And the other games =P

There's always been at least one mission I really loved in every single game, no older Hitman game is empty to me, there's always something iconic and cool in it.

I honestly prefer Codename 47 and Contracts though because of their very dark and gloomy atmospheres and soundtracks.

Avatar image for Navardo95

<< LINK REMOVED >> Contracts wasn't bad but I will say its my least favorite Hitman game...but I definitely don't hate it...I love it but just not as much as the other games...everything felt too familiar..the game was like an expansion to Hitman 2 and the storyline was basically a remake of Codename 47 and also too many bland lookin levels with the exception of the 'Traditions of The Trade'..frankly though,Contracts was the least diverse game in the series..

Avatar image for Zakk1010

<< LINK REMOVED >> Contracts "looks familiar" because it had the same missions of Hitman 1 and 2, it was memories of 47, he was like delirious/dreaming because he got shot in his last mission, the only new mission in the game is the last one, where you gotta escape the hotel and run away.

Avatar image for Johny_47

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> Not gonna argue with your opinion but *blows raspberries and sticks two fingers up* jog on =P

The only way I would be interested is if Bret Hart replace Agent 47

Hope it's going to be an actual Hitman game like Blood Money, and not a gimmicky linear shooter like Absolution was.

Avatar image for spacecadet25

Crap, that probably means its release is a long ways off. But, I'm glad they put out this news ahead of E3, since this was the only game that I was excited about hearing news about at E3, literally.

Avatar image for snake3rules

nice little detail about free roaming that entire building.

Also as a sidenote ... I thought hitman go was a dumb game when i first bought it, but a few weeks and 85+ levels beaten later, it is now the only game i play on my phone, and I'm totally addicted ... It is really a cool little puzzle game.

Avatar image for spacecadet25

<< LINK REMOVED >> Wow, exploring a whole building, interior and exterior? Sounds like all the old Hitman games, prior to the last one. Don't get me wrong, I like it, it just not an amazing concept either, it should always be there in a Hitman game.

It's like saying there are guns, and they fire bullets which can harm enemies.

Avatar image for TEFUKAM

Yesssssssssssssssssssssss HITMAN =) =) =)

Avatar image for nl_skipper

Aww, too bad. Well it's better than showing off the game way before release, only to eventually release something entirely different (and I feel like they showed off Absolution waaaay before they needed)! I love this franchise so much though, I'm very excited for a new entry, and they seem to have learned from their mistakes in Absolution, which is great to hear! I liked that game a lot too, but it wasn't in the same vein as older Hitman titles.

Avatar image for Hurvl

If that Hitman movie is close to as good as the first one I'll definitely want to see it. Someone should do another Max Payne movie as well, since the one with Mark Wahlberg was so entertaining.

Avatar image for Forcecaster

<< LINK REMOVED >> The Hitman movie would have been a lot better if they keep the original script, so here's hoping the reboot will do fine.

Avatar image for delete-easycomeeasygo

I too enjoy Max Payne Movie.

Avatar image for xsonicchaos

Ha! Good one.

Avatar image for origkillmachine

sweet. Very much enjoyed absolution, looking forward to seeing a next-gen hitman. I expect visual excellence, judging by their track record. Awesome crowds.

Avatar image for mark5225

I played all the hit man's and enjoyed them all absolution wasn't bad but it wasn't the best. Excited for a nex gen hitman.

Avatar image for hystavito

<< LINK REMOVED >> I loved the Hitman games and Death to Spies which is basically the same, but Absolution just didn't do it for me. I got bored and never completed it, I think I stopped playing on the strip club level.

What about it did you think was better than the previous games?

Avatar image for nl_skipper

@ladies_man_xxx Yea I really liked Absolution too, the biggest gripe I had with the game was the odd disguise system though, where all cooks, police officers, and mechanics in the city knew one another from across the room at a glance... lol very strange.

On the other hand Blood Money made it too easy to blend in... no one would EVER see through a disguise. They need to tweak it more akin to Hitman 2 where odd movement or strange activity, or just loitering near someone for too long, would set them off.

Oh, and no weapon collection room or pre-mission customization! Please bring that back!

Avatar image for Hurvl

<< LINK REMOVED >> I'll let Kevin Spacey answer your question in your first sentence,, since we're on the internet, but I personally agree with you. I'm in the minority who liked the Hitman movie, so someone will probably call me wrong, unless they think someone with *that* kind of taste isn't even worthy of a reply :P.

Avatar image for kingcrimson24

Absolution was disappointing , I hope this new one goes back to the old ways

Avatar image for xsonicchaos

Absolution was good, you pretentious snob. The previous games weren't any better. Yeah it hold your hand most of the time and a few levels were a bit tight, but it offered a lot of freedom and the gameplay was a lot of fun. You people just love your nostalgic drama. "New games aren't fun anymore, old games are... funner." They're not.

Avatar image for dark_rage864

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> your comment is invalid, the developers themselves admitted that Absolution wasn't very good and the previous games were a lot better. Obviously in 2012 any hitman game would have the technology standard as most games now, and you pointing fingers at people who enjoy older games makes you very stupid and ignorant. There's a difference between your knowledge and the actual fact, if you can't see that Absolution suffered compared to the previous games, your in denial.

Avatar image for kingcrimson24

@xsonicchaos @kingcrimson24 no its not like that :/

I like many games that around these days and many of them got better by time

I just didn't like the changes that came to Hitman absolution .

Avatar image for soccerpzn

<< LINK REMOVED >> the disguise system was probably the only thing they did better than older hitman games. At least it made more sense when some people would notice than rather no one noticing at all.

Avatar image for nl_skipper

<< LINK REMOVED >> Absolution had a number of flaws compared to older Hitman titles... and it's nothing to do with being nostalgic for old titles. Kingcrimson basically just listed a bunch of good ones. Some people were more accepting of the changes and flaws than others, but they are legitimate complaints.

Avatar image for kingcrimson24

@xsonicchaos @kingcrimson24 linear : Smaller Missions.

and checkpoint system made missions even more linear , it was basically going from A to B . its is bigger than many other games but not as big as the old Hitman games

Instinct : its unrealistic and stupid . what was wrong with satellite map in Hitman Blood money ?

Magic pockets : you could fit a Sniper rifle in those :/ but in older one's you had to put that in a suit case

Removing weapon customization and choosing load - outs before every missions

and disguise system : what does it mean that only people with the same outfit will get suspicious ? :|

and some other things ...

Avatar image for xsonicchaos

Like what changes?

Don't tell me you miss the coin or the stupid weapons select-thingy.
