New Halo Game Announced...For Arcades

Coming soon to a Dave & Busters near you.

A new Halo game has been announced--for arcades. Halo: Fireteam Raven is a new co-op shooter developed by arcade mainstays Raw Thrills and Play Mechanix in partnership with Halo custodians 343 Industries. The game is set during Halo: Combat Evolved's timeline, and puts you into the boots of Fireteam Raven on Alpha Halo. This is a group of Orbital Drop Shock Troopers, and you'll fight alongside Master Chief himself and other members of the UNSC. Like in other Halo games, you're squaring off against Covenant creatures.

The game plays on a 130-inch, 4K screen and the setup is outfitted with four physical machine guns. Players can work together or compete against one another.

"Halo: Fireteam Raven is without a doubt, the most spectacular arcade experience we've ever made," Raw Thrills CEO Eugene Jarvis said in a blog post. "After years of development it is now ready."

Halo: Fireteam Raven will start to show up at Dave & Busters locations in the US and Canada this summer, with more coming in the fall. The game is also baked into the Halo Waypoint website, as you'll be able to scan a QR code and see results on the website.

While a cool and exciting announcement, this is probably not the Halo game many are looking forward to. Halo 6, or whatever the next entry in the series is called, is in development but has not yet been officially announced. E3 2018 is coming up in just a few weeks, and given that it's been three years since Halo 5, now might be the year the next Halo is officially announced.

If Dave and Buster's can get a AAA exclusive why can't use Xbox one users get one lol

We can sign in with our gamertags and get gamerscore right?

If an Apple TV and Nintendo Switch can get Xbox achievements, I don't see why an arcade machine can't.

I'm sick of Halo games, but this actually looks like a fun game. It's an on rails shooter, like those old school zombie games (forget the name), but more advanced, better screen, and better gun.

Too bad it'll probably cost $2 for a single play.

@Vodoo: House of the Dead series. Great games!

@scatterbrain007: YES!!! Those were awesome arcade games.

Usually these kinds of games require skill. This looks like all you have to do is wiggle the gatling controller around while holding down the trigger. Well, that's probably the right game for the Halo and COD crowd.

What do we want? Halo Online released in NA!!!

What do we get? An...arcade game. Do arcades even exist outside of theaters anymore?

@Barighm: Yeah just Dave & Buster's and Main Event is about all. I'm extremely lucky I live near an actual old school arcade just a few miles from my house. They have everything from Pac-Man all the way up to the modern on rails shooters. You pay 10 bucks and the games are all on free play.

@Barighm: That's pretty much what a "Dave & Busters" is, an arcade with food and a bar.

Arcade games are way to expensive these days to really be enjoyable.

A Halo lightgun game...I'm sure X-bots will love it. Do we need another telling of a game we already have that does it better (the first Halo)? Still this is intended for the super-casuals that go to Dave and Busters, not the majority of people that peruse this site.

@csward: Take a look around. This site is as casual as it gets with more articles on movies, tv shows and wrestling than on videogames. The kind of people that read that stuff are exactly the kind of folks that would play a game like that.

This will probably be $5 a play. I pine for the 25c/50c days again.

@lionheartssj1: Seriously. Who the heck is crazy enough to actually pay $5 for one play?

Avatar image for lionheartssj1

@Barighm: There are some, apparently. The last time I was at a D&B, or maybe it was a MainEvent, I think the Star Wars Battlepod was about $4 a play. A lot of places that have scan cards will do their own credit system to make you think less about what you're spending. The MainEvent in Houston has a weird conversion if I recall correctly.

Kinda cool, just wish the guns weren't mounted. Would have been cool to make them look like AR's too.

@Xristophoros: All you do is troll up any article having to do with MS/XBOX. Your shtick is beyond old.

Avatar image for dlCHIEF58

@Xristophoros: LOL, you've run out of decent material as you've really been scraping the bottom of the barrel lately with your feeble attempts to denigrate Microsoft. Time you should give it up as you are obviously past your prime if this is the best you can do. Waiting for you to find the negative in the Xbox Adaptive Controller for the disabled.

Avatar image for Xristophoros

@dlCHIEF58: no, the controller is the only meaningful thing microsoft has done in about 4 years. i would not take credit away from something that is actually worthy of praise.

@Xristophoros: Lol, not following your logic, especially considering a Halo 6 announcement is expected this year at E3, and there are rumors of a VR headset release for the 1X. Interesting timing, having those two things announced around the same time, no....?

But sure, whatever you say. They've "given up."

Avatar image for Vodoo
Vodoo

@optimus117: I don't think many people care about Halo 6, or any Halo game anymore, being announced. Microsoft needs some new material before they do VR.

Maybe they should reboot the Halo franchise into a 3rd person game, or something new like God of War did. Something like Brute Force, being they won't make a sequel to that.

Avatar image for optimus117
optimus117

@Vodoo: Well for starters, I still care about Halo 6, and evidently so does a guy a few comments down, not to mention virtually everyone I play online with....so yeah. There's that.

And did you seriously just say "reboot Halo"? Not a chance in hell they reboot, especially not mid-stride. They openly stated years ago that 4 was the start of a new trilogy.

Avatar image for Vodoo
Vodoo

@optimus117: OK, so if 6 is the end, than good riddance. A game that has gotten to be so monotonous and mundane. They have worn Halo into the ground. They have been pounding on this ip since the original Xbox's launch back in 2001!!! It was the first game to launch with the system.

That's 17 years of pretty much the same thing over and over. Sure, they make it look pretty, add some new skins to the enemies and weapons, but it's basically been the same game over and over.

I can understand if you only own an Xbox that you would be excited for basically anything at this point, but by buying into Halo just because it's the only game with any substance on the console makes MS think that people want this crap again and again. It NEEDS a long break or a reboot. Because the current formula doesn't work anymore.

Just how God of War got tiresome and became the same thing every release. A reboot did it good. Either that, or put it to bed for a while and invest in something new. If you want Halo 6... Just play Halo 4 and 5 again. Then you've played Halo 6.

A better idea, instead of buying this, would be to pick up a different console. Used or new, and get some of their exclusives. Because I can guarantee you will have a better time playing those games than another Halo game.

We're obviously not gonna agree, so....cya.
