Here are the biggest games you can expect to play in July, which includes Deadly Premonition 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Paper Mario: The Origami King, and more!
While July is known historically as a slower period for game releases, that doesn't mean there isn't anything noteworthy coming out. Quite a few exciting games are launching this month that you should keep on your radar. This isn't your typical summer game drought, especially with certain games being pushed from previous dates into July because of issues brought on by the pandemic.
Sony is continuing to hit summer hard with its latest first-party developed game, Ghost of Tsushima, while last year's limited-time PS4-exclusive Death Stranding will finally be arriving to PC. On the other hand, Nintendo is releasing a couple of Switch-exclusives, which includes the sequel to the cult-classic Deadly Premonition and a new entry in the Paper Mario series. There's even some notable remasters re-releases on the horizon with the Switch port of Catherine: Fully Body and THQ Nordic's remaster of PS2-era sandbox favorite, Destroy All Humans!
To give you a look at what's ahead for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch, we've rounded up all the biggest games of July 2020 below. For a wider look at the titles still to come this year, be sure to check out our list of game release dates in 2020. Deadly Premonition is one of the more bizarre cult-classics in games, but dig deeper, and you'll find that beneath all its clunky gameplay lies an oddly charming adventure that channels the strangeness of Twin Peaks, filtered through the creative mind of Hidetaka "Swery65" Suehiro. It's the game he's known most for, and in July, we can look forward to a sequel that will continue detective Francis York Morgan's storyline, Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise. Set in 2019, FBI agent Aaliyah Davis is investigating an old case in Boston, one that winds up being connected to a 2005 case in New Orleans that was led by the one and only Detective Morgan. You will play as both characters, and come to understand better the bridge that spans across the country and across decades.

Ghost Of Tsushima is an open-world action-adventure set in 13th century Japan. You play as Jin Sakai, one of the last remaining Samurai defending the island of Tsushima against the Mongol empire's invasion. Since it was first announced in 2017, a great deal of excitement and anticipation has built around the game and its developer Sucker Punch (Sly Cooper, Infamous). With only a handful of glimpses and closer looks into Ghost of Tsushima's story, world, and combat throughout the years, there's still so much we don't know about the game. Fortunately, we'll finally see how Ghost of Tsushima truly stacks up when it launches mid-July.

Nintendo surprised Paper Mario fans a few months ago when it announced Paper Mario: The Origami King. As with the other entries in the series, it has a whimsical premise. The papercraft Mushroom Kingdom has fallen into disarray as the evil King Olly enters the scene, kidnapping Princess Peach and seizing control of Bowser's army. As such, both Mario and Bowser join forces alongside King Olly's sister, Olivia, to topple the evil king's origami empire. Paper Mario: The Origami King also seems to be offering a refreshing new take on the series' classic gameplay. It features a new ring-based battle system that combines puzzle-solving skills with traditional turn-based combat.
