Face/Off 2 Will Be The Definitive Sequel, Not A Reboot, According To Director

Director Adam Wingard's upcoming Face/Off movie has been called a lot of things: a remake, a reimagining, a revamp. However, during IGN's Fan Fest, he came out and set the record straight. It's a sequel.

At the end of IGN's panel for Godzilla vs. King Kong, Wingard spoke about taking on this classic film. "Like I said on my Instagram, I would never make a remake of Face/Off," he said. "I would never make a reboot, and I've seen a lot of people, even after I said that this is a direct sequel, they kind of they keep calling it a reboot-hybrid-sequel or remake-hybrid-sequel. It's none of that.

"This is Face/Off 2, you now, and I can't say what that means exactly, but this is either going to be the definitive follow up to that movie and everything that that entails, or I'm not going to make it because everything's got to line up perfectly. The script's going really good. Simon Barrett, my writer who I worked with on You're Next and The Guest, we've been working a lot over quarantine. It is Face/Off 2, and I'll just leave it at that."

1997's Face/Off was directed by John Woo and starred John Travolta as FBI agent Sean Archer who has to have a face transplant replacement surgery with criminal Castor Troy (Nicolas Cage) in order to find out where a bomb that can destroy all of Los Angeles is hidden.

The ridiculously implausible plot and great Woo action direction have made it a cult classic. The film also features great quotes that make no sense out of context like, "Peach. I could eat a peach for hours."
