New Chrono game in planning stages

SquareSoft is currently mulling over several ideas for a new game in the Chrono series.

Although SquareSoft's Final Fantasy series has received the brunt of the mainstream attention, the company's Chrono series of role-playing games is regarded by many as the epitome of the genre. Chrono Cross on the PlayStation continued the tradition of the novel storytelling and intuitive gameplay set forth by Chrono Trigger. Now, that tradition is set to continue, as the next game in the Chrono series is currently in the planning stages. Hironobu Sakaguchi, executive producer at SquareSoft, informed GameSpot that several members of the Chrono Cross development team are highly interested in developing a new game in the series. In fact, although the production on the game hasn't begun yet, several script ideas are currently being considered.

"There has been a lot of pitching of ideas for a new Chrono game," Sakaguchi said. "Of our staff in Tokyo, a lot of people want to continue the series and create a new Chrono game, especially the former director. Right now we're throwing around a few different ideas for the game, but there hasn't been a green light for production yet."

A specific console platform for the next game in the Chrono series is not being discussed publicly at this time, and given the early state of the project, we don't expect to see the game for some time.

It's sad to see what Square became after Enix join. It's also sad to see how disrespectfully we are treated, we almost beg Square to make a new Chrono Series and they completely ignore us.

PS: Sorry about my typos, I am really angry right now.

I know it almost seems useless to comment on this anymore, but seriously...they should think about bringing this series back. It is arguably the best rpg series ever, and I'll say outright has some of the best characters, best story, and definately the best soundtrack of almost any series to date...its just too bad that the FF Juggernaut (don't get me wrong, I do like me some good ol' FF) pushes everything out of the limelight....I miss thee Chrono...I miss thee greatly...

Sigh, it is sad that Enix screwed Squaresoft over since it joined. I wonder sometimes about what Final Fantasy XI and XII would have been like without them. I'm just glad that the merge didn't mess up Kingdom Hearts II and the FFVII Compilation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That being said, I wonder if they will sill consider doing a 3rd Chrono Trigger for the PS3 or the Wii. I noticed that the new systems are bringing back some old school games such as Banjo Kazooie, Diddy Kong Racing and more. Wouldn't hurt if Square Enix followed the same ideas and went back on doing sequals to non-FF games.

To Square-Enix, If one of you ppl who work over there happen to stuble across my comment right here (wait you say you work at SQUARE ENIX? READ ON!) I Demand you Make a New Game in the Chrono Series. In my Opinion the Chrono Series Deserves as much respect as the FF series. Chrono I believe if you choose to make a new one can become SE's 2nd top selling Franchise I BET YOU! Now Im not trying to Sound like a ranting fanboy but the Chrono Games are just that incredible (otherwise I wouldnt bother to type this) I Highly suggest PS3 or Wii and NOT to go with 360 to satisfy the fanbase. I know you guys have the potential to make an incredible RPG thats amazing if not even more amazing then the previous chrono games. Pls Consider, Fans have been waiting, and a new potential Larger audience awaits.... -Sincerly, Fiku

This game was cancelled three years ago and hasn't been picked up again. They had to cancel this game due to Spirits Within practical failure at the box office. They needed to cancel some projects and they definitely weren't going to cancel a Final Fantasy Project, so they scrapped this game. They were going to call it Chrono Break, I believe, and continue the story with Serge. The story won't be picked up and used for years, unless SquareEnix's big pet project FFXII does really well. Oh, and here's the annoying thing about this cancel. The announcement to cancel the game came shortly after Squaresoft and Enix merged.

Hehe, I bet they don't work on it now, SquareEnix is rotting, and all because they became one with Enix, and I liked the good old Square! But now they all are going down,
