New Bloodborne Patch Out Now, Drops Obnoxious Multiplayer Requirement

Balancing and bug fixes.

The latest patch for Bloodborne is now available, and among other things, it does away with an obstacle when attempting to play with friends.

As of yet, the patch notes for 1.04 have only been published online in Japanese; viewing the update history on a PS4 is of little help, as it lists only "improved game balance" and "various bug fixes." That sells this patch short, in large part because the game now no longer requires you to be within a certain number of levels of other players when trying to join together with a password.

It's key that this change applies only to matches with password matching, as these are instances where you're deliberately trying to play together with a friend. Trying to find other random players online without a password will still require that you're within roughly 10 levels of each other.

Other changes include a big increase in the number of Blood Vials and Quicksilver Bullets you can now keep in your storage, as you can now have up to 600 of each. The Insight store now shows up sooner, as you'll need only one Insight, not 10, for it to appear. And various balance tweaks have been made, such as reducing the stamina use of the Kirkhammer and decreasing the number of Quicksilver Bullets it takes to use certain items.

Players are attempting to document all of the tweaks in this patch over on Reddit, and we're still awaiting the full patch notes to be released in English.

Sony recently revealed that an expansion for Bloodborne is coming later this year, though we don't yet have any details about it.

What I always wanted! To fight 2 500+ level opponents at level 90. Yea, thats not obnoxious at all. Way to promote a patch that effectively trolled MP pvp.

I played Witcher 3... beat it... This game is FAR superior. It is a true Masterpiece. And now with this patch, all previous existing gripes I had with it are gone. This is the best game of the year. And if you think Witcher is better in any way... You be dumb and have poor taste. End of Transmission. . .

@bonzaibillie_99: Not played Bloodborne yet but I'll judge when I get my chance, however my experience with Witcher 3 might have been better than yours as I have not had to play it on the consoles.

@Arsyad00: you can still only carry 20/ But you can now store up to 600 in your Storage unit.

@TheExxorcist: Looks like "Hero of Sparta" insofar as it's a cheap attempt to cash-in on an established franchise. Hero of Sparta wanted to be God of War so bad, but didn't want to be a quality game. I'm guessing a game called "Blood Memory" is doing the same with Bloodborne. Steer clear.

Avatar image for TheExxorcist

not... its not hack N slash... it plays like Souls... stamina bars, blocking, to use Health he smashes a fairy over his head and the blood pours out... its a great game... nothing like click click click click... no "hurry up and press circle" attacks... Hero of Sparta was garbage...

@TheExxorcist: Read my comment again. I made the claim that "Blood Memory" is trying to cash in on the success of Bloodborne, much like Hero of Sparta was trying to cash in on God of War. Blood Memory seems to want to draw in the same demographic as Bloodborne, but it's not going to happen as a touch screen game.

@AceJakk@TheExxorcist: Yeah I too didn't like the look of the game. Has a serious Lords of the Fallen mixed with God of War vibe. Doesn't look like a very impactful game.

So then what your supposed to pair with weaklings against strong bosses? Makes no sense to me!?

@IanNottinghamX: If you are using the password, you should know who you are paired with. Random matchmaking is still the same.

I'm excited because I would like to play this game, but I suck so bad I cannot even beat the Cleric Beast, maybe now someone can help me not be totally lame.

@phaedrus73: Have you tried him with the saw blade? I have fought him with all 3 starting weapons and he was easy on my first try with the saw blade. I had a much more difficult time with the other two weapons on new characters and that was after I had completed numerous hours in the game (I was much more skilled than the first time). I recall that the very quick damage allowed my hp recover to go faster than the damage he was dishing out. I just spammed R1 a lot with the weapon in the default mode. Also, make sure you have the first armor upgrade set.

@phaedrus73: I beat the cleric beast my fist game pretty easy but then had a difficult time on a new character I created. I figured out that the cleric beast was easier with a quick weapon and I was able to beat him down faster than he could me, especially with the hp regain from counter damage. Try a different character with the the saw blade and stay in close and spam damage with R1 when you are in close. You still have to back off every so often He is tough with the axe or cane - at least he was for me.

@phaedrus73: Advice for Cleric Beast solo.

Only lock on for Firearms, the linear space for such a hulking beast put's locking on a disadvantage.

Dash/ roll forward 'towards him' passes through most his attacks.

Hit his large arm whenever possible, it stuns him commonly.

Follow this and you can win with ease.

@phaedrus73: Here's some advice. Usually when people are killed by a boss, they have a tendency to make a straight beeline back to the boss. Don't do that. Always be sure to kill, at the very least, 2 or 3 easy enemies that are along your route, build up your blood echoes. The more you die, the more blood echoes you collect. 2 or 3 enemies doesn't seem like much but before you know it, you have enough blood echoes to respawn back to The Hunter's Dream and refill your blood vials or level up. Your first priority when encountering a boss should be to pick up the blood echoes you dropped.

You play it this way the game goes a lot smoother.

@phaedrus73: What level are you trying to take on the Cleric Beast at? Sometimes just going up a few levels does wonders.

Avatar image for phaedrus73
phaedrus73

@reduc_ab_@phaedrus73: If I had to guess I would say I'm about 14 or 15. I can beat everything leading up to the beast easy except those darn Werewolves which are still pretty hard, so I just run past em.

Avatar image for deactivated-5c0b07b32bf03

@phaedrus73@reduc_ab_: Here's my advice. Get to level 20 or so. Upgrade a weapon of your choice at least once. I don't know what kind of build you have, but if you've put anything in strength, then here's the tactic: hug the Cleric Beast's back legs, and swing away, as he has a very difficult time hitting you if you are directly behind him. It's really simple actually. Just make sure you don't get on his side or front, and if you do, then tumble roll back behind him. If locking on helps, then do that and just sidestep. If the Beast backs into a wall and you can't get behind him--run away! Regain your stamina then charge back in and get behind him. He'll go down, trust me. And don't lose hope. Stick with it. The game is brutal early on with the learning curve. Especially with the boss after Cleric....

@phaedrus73: Nah I am new and have lost a LOT to cleric beast. After beating him yesterday I would say upgrade your weapon once it gives a lot more damage making fight a lot easier.

Avatar image for Buck_Swaggler

@phaedrus73: Just in case you didn't know. The roll/dash has invincibility frames. Get the timing down and you'll beat the beast easy. Just don't get greedy when going on the offensive, and try to stay behind it.

Avatar image for yuriawitch

@phaedrus73: If you go that route, you are going to miss out on a great experience.

Avatar image for phaedrus73

@yuriawitch: I know, it is horrible. It is a fun game, and I have been trying to figure it out. I will be doing Witcher 3 for awhile then I hope to go back and crack the code for Bloodborne, I want to be good at it. I feel so ridiculous being so bad at it.

Avatar image for kargion

@phaedrus73@yuriawitch: You don't miss out on anything. Some people play games for the challenge other play games for the story and to see the content. Both ways are fun.

Avatar image for yuriawitch

@kargion@phaedrus73@yuriawitch: Cool then play Skyrim, Destiny, Guild Wars. This game is extremely different from other games and to say you aren't missing out when playing the game in a way that completely changes it is ridiculous. If you co-op with an op player, you are not playing Bloodborne. Sorry, you didn't play it you didn't beat it and you don't understand or appreciate the game at all.

Avatar image for ratatack_906

Seems to be a bit of a jump to conclusions. You can't decide what's worthwhile for someone and what's not. Doesn't work that way.

Avatar image for yuriawitch

@phaedrus73@yuriawitch: Everyone is bad at a souls game in the beginning. Don't ever believe stories that say otherwise. I've seen people claim that a boss was easy after dying 20x. People have this bizarre way of getting good at something and then forgetting how much they struggled in the beginning.

Once you beat the first boss, you will be surprised on how much you start picking up on the game. My experience with the first souls game, Demon Souls, is incredibly memorable and was a wonderful experience. The feeling of beating a hard boss or area is just such a great feeling. Don't ruin it by summoning people that are way op. And even if they aren't op, some bosses become destroyed in normal coop in Bloodborne.

I don't know why everyone is crying about this. If you don't want the game to be any easier for you, then don't invite your friend who is 50+ levels over you. Or just play with random people where the level requirement is still enabled. Or just play it solo.

Avatar image for ghostofyharnam

@JediMasterJ42: There are SEVERAL explanations how this affects much more than just people innocently "playing the game the way they want" on this message board alone. If you like I'll copy paste one of them for you.

@ghostofyharnam@JediMasterJ42: Yeah, reading through the comments I'm not seeing much. How does this effect PvP and PvE to a game breaking extent? The level requirement still sticks for PvP.
