New Battlefield 1 Video Showcases Its Weapons
DICE has been researching them for a long time.
EA has released a new video focused on Battlefield 1's wide variety of weaponry, which you can check out above.
The video features a handful of DICE staffers talking about WWI-era weapons and the research the studio did to ensure it was able to properly recreate them. Some of this was going on in the background "for a long time."
We get to see some behind-the-scenes shots showing DICE actually firing classic weapons as part of the research process. There's also, of course, gameplay footage of the weapons in action, including machine guns, rifles, sidearms, and melee weapons.
The choice of World War I as the setting for Battlefield 1 was deemed risky by EA, and the company believed many people were unaware of the technology that was available during that time.
"I think what people don't understand about World War I is the technology shift that went on during the war," EA CFO Blake Jorgensen said. "People started the war on horseback and ended the war with airplanes and tanks and battleships and submarines. And that's a huge opportunity for us to be able to do a video game around."
EA revealed this week that its expectations for Battlefield 1 are somewhat conservative, saying it believes it will sell just under the usual 15 million a Battlefield game would normally do. We also recently learned that a Battlefield TV show is in the works and that the recent games will soon have a unified UI.
