New Apex Legends Trailer Provides A Sneak Peek At Upcoming Anniversary Collection Event
It was confirmed last week that players who complete the collection will receive a set of Heirloom Shards as a reward.
Apex Legends Season 16: Revelry is just over 24 hours away from its Valentine's Day launch. Last week, Apex developer Respawn Entertainment revealed that Season 16 would go live at the same time as the new Anniversary Collection Event. Today, the developer gave players a preview of what to expect from the new event via a trailer released on YouTube and Twitter.
Keeping in line with Revelry's party theme, the Anniversary Collection Event is all about celebrating Apex's fourth birthday (which was February 4). These events have been especially prevalent this season, with three back-to-back Collection Events taking place in Season 15 alone. But unlike the Celestial Sunrise Collection Event's somewhat underwhelming $170 Peacekeeper skin, the new Anniversary Collection Event features the ultimate prize for collecting all 24 premium cosmetics: a free set of Heirloom Shards.

Heirloom Shards are a coveted item among Apex players, as they allow any item in the Mythic Store--that is, Heirloom Weapons and Prestige Skins--to be unlocked. Players are guaranteed one set of Heirloom Shards for every 500 Apex Packs opened. The only way to guarantee that you obtain a specific Heirloom Weapon is to either open 500 Apex Packs (for a total of $500 USD) and use the Heirloom Shards you receive to purchase an item from the Mythic Store, or purchase every single items in the Collection Event that features the weapon you desire as a reward. The latter option is the cheapest way to get ahold of a Mythic-tier item, as completing a Collection Event only costs about $170 USD. But for newer players who may have missed out on previous Collection Events, obtaining costly Heirloom Shards are the only way to obtain a previously-released Heirloom Weapon.
During Apex's second anniversary, players were given the opportunity to unlock free Heirloom Shards--so many were disappointed when Apex's third anniversary featured a Collection Event with a Prestige Skin as the reward instead of Heirloom Shards. But as confirmed in the fourth Anniversary Collection Event trailer, players who unlock all 24 cosmetics will finally have a chance to unlock the Mythic item of their dreams for $170 (or less, if they've already got some spare Crafting Metals on hand to unlock some of the collection's skins for free).
The trailer also mentioned another set of "party favors" players will gain access to when Season 16 goes live: two sets of login rewards that unlock legends--and cosmetics--for free. Players who log in at least once from February 14 - 21 will unlock Crypto as a playable character, along with a free Crypto Thematic Pack. Thematic Packs are a type of Apex Pack that are guaranteed to unlock at least one cosmetic item exclusive to the legend pictured on the Apex Pack. Players who log in between February 21- 28 will unlock Ash free of charge, and also receive an Ash Thematic Pack.
The Anniversary Collection Event goes live alongside the launch of Apex Legends Season 16: Revelry on Tuesday, February 14, at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. The event ends on Feb 28. For more information on the upcoming season, check out our Season 16 guide.
Apex Legends is free to play on console and PC. A mobile version of the game, Apex Legends Mobile, is available to play on Android and iOS devices, but will be sunset on May 1, 2023.
