If you had any residual anxiety about the upcoming Scream relaunch, you can put those fears to rest. Not only are original cast members David Arquette and Courtney Cox making their returns to the franchise, so is the Scream queen herself. Bloody Disgusting reports that Neve Campbell will be reprising her role as Sidney Prescott in Scream 5.

In addition, Deadline has reported that several new cast members have been signed to the project as well. Marley Shelton will be returning as Deputy Judy Hicks, while Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why) and Mason Gooding (Love Victor) will be new characters. They'll be joined by Kyle Gallner (Outsiders), Jasmin Savoy Brown (The Leftovers), and Mikey Madison (Once Upon A Time In Hollywood).

Now Playing: New to Netflix US - September

Campbell was previously rumored to be in talks to return, but officially released a statement on the project to confirm: "After spending time speaking with Radio Silence, they have shown such love, respect and admiration for Wes Craven and all that he’s created in the Scream franchise. I am beyond excited to step back into the role of Sidney Prescott and return to Woodsboro."

Scream 5 has also added several new cast members, including Jack Quaid who is currently starring in Amazon's The Boys, Melissa Barrera (In The Heights), and Jenny Ortega (You). Currently, there is not a plot synopsis or a title beyond the numbering convention every other Scream film has followed, but there has been a "teaser" (a quick image of the iconic Ghostface mask emerging from the shadows) and a release date set.

Scream is the latest in a long-line of new entries to classic horror franchises, including another new Halloween movie, Halloween Kills, set to be released in 2021 and an eighth Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie that is currently shooting.

Scream 5 is being directed by Radio Silence group members Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (Ready or Not, V/H/S) and written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not, Castle Rock).

It is set to hit theaters on January 14, 2022.
