Netflix's Scott Pilgrim Anime Clip Imagines A World Where Netflix Still Has DVDs
The eight-episode series is set to premiere on Netflix on November 17.
During Netflix's Drop 01 virtual event, Netflix released a new clip featuring nearly two full scenes of the upcoming anime, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. The eight-episode series is scheduled for release on Netflix on November 17.
In the clip, we discover that Ramona Flowers--the girl of Scott's dreams--is seemingly friendless, though off-limits for Scott to date due to a friend's interference. It's then revealed that Ramona works as a DVD delivery person for Netflix, prompting Scott and his roommate to engineer a meet-cute. They agonize over making the perfect DVD selection, in a bid to win Ramona's heart.
Adapted from Bryan Lee O'Malley's graphic novels, the anime brings O'Malley's distinctive art style to life, infused with the same lively energy that characterized Edgar Wright's 2010 live-action film adaptation. Additionally, the original cast is reprising their roles, with Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim, Ellen Wong as Knives Chau, Kieran Culkin as Wallace Wells, Anna Kendrick as Stacey Pilgrim, Aubrey Plaza as Julie Powers, Jason Schwartzman as Gideon Graves, Chris Evans as Lucas Lee, Brie Larson as Envy Adams, and more returning to voice their characters.
Anamanaguchi, who contributed music to Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game, provides original songs and also a score in collaboration with Joseph Trapanese (Straight Outta Compton).
Both O'Malley and BenDavid Grabinski serve as executive producers, contributing to the show's creative direction and script alongside Wright. If you're itching to see more, another teaser trailer was released over the summer.
