Netflix's New Horror Movie His House Gets Scary First Trailer, Releases Soon

October is the favorite month for many horror fans, and this this year, there's a wide variety of new movies and shows being released by the different streaming platforms. One of Netflix's offerings is the movie His House, and the first trailer has been released.

The movie stars Sope Dirisu (Gangs of London) and Wunmi Mosaku (Lovecraft Country, the upcoming Loki) as a couple who escape their home in war-torn South Sudan and head to the UK to apply for asylum. While their claim is being processed, they are housed in a rundown house in a small English town. But not everything is as it seems in their new home--there's something evil in the walls--but in order to stay in the UK they have to remain where they are. It looks like a impressive blend of social commentary and intense supernatural horror--check the trailer out below.

The movie also features former Doctor Who star Matt Smith, plus Javier Botet (It: Chapter 2) and Emily Taaffe (Ripper Street). It's written and directed by Remi Weekes and hits Netflix on October 30.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Weekes spoke about what sets His House apart from similarly-theme movies. "Unlike traditional haunted house stories where the protagonist might be able to escape, our protagonists--two displaced asylum seekers--do not have the privilege to simply leave," he explained. "Rather, they are stuck having to survive within their house. This is often the case in the U.K., where asylum seekers have to follow draconian rules when given accommodation. This is also often the case with trauma--you're stuck having to find ways to survive your grief, and finding ways to heal within it."

Other new horror releases arriving on streaming this month include a series of new films from Get Out and The Purge producers Blumhouse, which are collectively titled Welcome to the Blumhouse and will be released on Prime Video. There's also The Haunting of Bly Manor, Netflix's follow-up to The Haunting of Hill House, a Hulu anthology series titled Monsterland, and a new animated episode of Shudder's Creepshow, written by Stephen King and Joe Hill.
