Netflix has released new images from the upcoming Marilyn Monroe movie Blonde, which stars Ana de Armas in the lead role. The film has been making waves and generating buzz for its position as Netflix's first NC-17 original film.

Blonde debuts at the Venice Film Festival, which begins in August. Ahead of that, Vanity Fair has new images of the film, one of which shows de Armas alongside Adrien Brody, who plays Monroe's husband, the playwright Arthur Miller. A second image depicts de Armas filming a scene with Bobby Cannavale as the iconic baseball player Joe DiMaggio, with director Andrew Dominik standing behind the camera.

A third photo depicts de Armas with Xavier Samuel as Charlie Chaplin Jr. and Evan Williams as Edward G. Robinson's son. Head to Vanity Fair to see all the new images.

Blonde was written and directed by Dominik, and is based on the Joyce Carol Oates novel. The movie is not a traditional biopic, as it blurs the lines between fact and fiction, Netflix said. It tells the story of how a woman, Norma Jeane Baker, became the incredibly popular celebrity Marilyn Monroe in the '50s and '60s.

Dominik previously said Blonde would "offend everyone" who sees it. Viewers can decide for themselves when Blonde comes to Netflix on September 23.

In addition to Blonde, de Armas will play the lead role in the John Wick spinoff, Ballerina. She also recently discussed the future of the James Bond series, saying Bond should not be played by a woman.
