Netflix has released the first trailer for Biggie: I Got a Story to Tell, a documentary about the life and career of one of the most influential rappers of all time, the Notorious B.I.G. The film about the East Coast rapper is slated to hit the streaming service on March 1.

According to the official synopsis, this documentary "celebrates [Biggie's] life via rare behind-the-scenes footage and the testimonies of his closest friends and family." I Got a Story to Tell will be coming out just shy of what would have been the rapper's--whose real name was Chris Wallace--50th birthday on March 9. (The movie also comes after the legendary rapper's recent Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction.) The film is intended to be "an intimate rendering of a man whose rapid ascent and tragic end has been at the center of rap lore for more than 20 years."

Directed by Emmett Malloy (The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights), this documentary features rare footage filmed by Wallace's friend Damion "D-Roc" Bullet and also features new interviews with his closest friends and family, "revealing a side of Christopher Wallace that the world never knew."

I Got a Story to Tell was executive produced by Wallace's mother, Voletta Wallace, and his friend and collaborator rapper Diddy--who both also contributed candid interviews to the film. As Diddy says in the trailer, "Biggie blew up overnight… You have no origins from what rap planet this guy came from."
