Netflix Producing The Witcher Anime Film, Nightmare Of The Wolf, From Korra Studio

Double your Witcher, double your fun.

Netflix has just released its live-action series based on The Witcher and announced a second season incoming, but the company actually has another Witcher production in the works as well. An anime film, titled The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, is coming from the animation studio behind The Legend of Korra.

A tweet from Netflix's geek-focused NX account said the story will cover a new threat facing the continent. The tweet also confirms that The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich and writer Beau DeMayo are behind this production. However, it doesn't mention Geralt or actor Henry Cavill--though the "wolf" in the title would seem to be a reference to Geralt's nickname.

Studio Mir, the South Korean animation studio known for the Nickelodeon hit The Legend of Korra, has previously worked with Netflix on Voltron: Legendary Defender.

Netflix has stated it's happy with the success of The Witcher, calling it a massive new franchise thanks to a big performance in 2019. Hissrich said on Twitter that she's been keeping the anime film a secret for over a year, so it was in production long before Netflix knew what it had a hit on its hands.

The first season of The Witcher showed promise, but was held back by a confusing story structure, according to GameSpot's review.

Sigh yes I know technically in Japan, anime refers to all animation. But in the western world, anime refers to Japanese anime. This isnt an anime. Its an animated work by a Korean studio, and one that made a pretty garbage sequel series to an actual decent show Avatar the Last Airbender.

Studio Mir is also the animation studio behind Kipo, which is surprisingly enjoyable so far.
