Netflix Dumps Two Completed Movies, But They Could Wind Up Elsewhere

They might be completed, but Netflix isn't moving forward with two films: The Inheritance and House/Wife. Both have finished filming--similar to HBO Max's Batgirl--but won't see the light of day on the streaming service.

There is a big difference here, though, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Filmmakers for The Inheritance and House/Wife are able to shop their projects around to find a new distributor. So even though Netflix has passed on the completed projects, another streaming service or studio could pick them up.

It's unknown exactly why Netflix ultimately decided to skip out on distributing the movies. The Inheritance is reportedly set on the eve of a billionaire's 75th birthday, when he asks his four estranged children to return home. The wealthy man is apparently worried about being murdered, so tells his offspring they must protect him to stay in his will. Director Alejandro Brugués helmed the thriller, with the cast including Bob Gunton, Peyton List, Austin Stowell, Briana Middleton, David Walton, and Rachel Nichols.

House/Wife, per THR, has a longline that states: "a mother recovering from a brutal accident moves into a prototype smart home with her family, only to find the house's AI system may have sinister intentions." Danis Goulet directed the film, starring Alice Braga, Kris Holden-Ried, and Sarah Gadon.

Recently, Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos said the company has "never canceled a successful show." The streaming service axed around 20 series in 2022, including notable ones like Resident Evil and Blockbuster.

Looking ahead, The Lord of the Rings trilogy will return to Netflix for the first time in a couple of years.
