NeoGeo titles coming to PSN Dec. 21

SNK Playmore announces "Neo Geo Station" for Sony's virtual storefront hitting later this month; 10 updated PS3 and PSP titles available at launch for $8.99 and $6.99, respectively.

No Caption Provided PlayStation 3 owners with an Internet-connected console can already download PlayStation One classics, but for those looking even deeper into the past, the PlayStation Network will soon offer NeoGeo titles.

Publisher SNK Playmore today announced plans for a "Neo Geo Station" on the PlayStation Network. The download hub will go live on December 21 with 10 classic NeoGeo titles. The games will be offered for both the PlayStation 3 and PSP priced at $8.99 and $6.99, respectively.

The King of Fighters rumble back to the PSN later this month.
The King of Fighters rumble back to the PSN later this month.

Additionally, the NeoGeo titles are not plain and simple ports of their original form. SNK has added contemporary features to each title including online versus and cooperative play for the PS3 (ad hoc support for PSP titles), as well as a "variety" of unspecified improvements.

All 10 titles arriving on the PlayStation Network are listed below. All titles will be available for the PS3 on December 21, with two (denoted with *) also being available for the PSP. The other eight titles will arrive for PSP sometime in January.

• Fatal Fury*
• Alpha Mission II
• The King of Fighters '94
• Samurai Shodown
• Baseball Stars Professional
• Magician Lord
• Metal Slug*
• League Bowling
• Super Sidekicks
• Art of Fighting

A little too late IMO. Most people played these games. And for the people who havent, like the kiddies. May will get bored of these games real quick.

@Kleeyook How do you know SCEA isn't the holdup? Look at how much stuff the Japanese PSN has that the US one doesn't.

Fantastic! As a long-time SNK fan and former Neo Geo owner I have to say this is great! Enjoy! I hope these make it XBLA as well, and that this marks a change in SCEA's attitude towards SNK. Japanese PS2 owners got a lot more SNK games than US players did, plus the games had online play! SCEA didn't approve games like Garou back then because "the graphics weren't nice enough" or some nonsense like that... Oooh... online enabled Garou on the PS3... hope that's next in line :)

Sweet. I love the Neo Geo arcade games. Good to see that us PS3 owners will finally get to have some of these games.

@drswank What a close minded assumption. I don't own any Madden or MW games, (though with the original MW finally getting to a reasonable price used for a single player guy like me, that could change) and played most of these in the arcades in their prime. They are simply badly outdated and much less playable than the games that have come since then. With maybe the only exception being KoF '94. It would have been better to have more recent games, like Garou: Mark of the Wolves and KoF 2002 UM. I really can't imagine the first Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting games getting much of a following in their respective online modes.

I hope that like the Virtual Console, this opens the door to other non-Playstation retro games.

@SteveTabernacle What a closed-minded comment. These games are history, bro. Of course, those "gamers" that only play Madden/MW2 wouldn't know that.

@BottomDollar: Street Slam was released on Wii's Virtual Console November 1. As to this release, another platform is good, but there's a lot of games in the Neo-Geo library that nobody has touched yet. Super Baseball 2020 anyone?

If you've already special ordered high-caliber D-pads or fight sticks for previous PS3 efforts this year like SSFIV, you'll be in fine shape for many of these Neo Geo games. If you're still playing 2D-based gameplay titles using your stock PS3 controller, it's time to look into special ordering a great USB d-pad controller and/or arcade stick. Or two of them...

We can't play those games on both systems like we do with PSOne Classics? :( ANd plz SNK! Support PS3 more with your new games like Samurai SHowdown Zen or releasing KOF 2002 UM on the PSN, not 360 alone! :(
