Electronic Arts has announced that Need for Speed Underground will now ship late this year instead of in early 2004, as previously announced. The next Need for Speed game will take place in the world of urban street racing, challenging players to win cash, cars, and respect in races that put their skills and customizable supercars to the test. The game's visual effects will provide an enhanced sense of speed designed under the supervision of an Oscar-nominated Hollywood special-effects expert. Among the fully customizable cars will be 20 licensed models from Mitsubishi, Subaru, Toyota, and others, and there'll be hundreds of authentic aftermarket parts available.

Need for Speed Underground will ship for the PS2, Xbox, GameCube, PC, and Game Boy Advance. However, online play will be available only in the PlayStation 2 and PC versions.
