NBA Elite 11 delay could cost EA $60 million - Analyst

Boo Yeah! This is what EA gets for cutting out NFL 2k because they couldn't handle the competition. I hope all EA sports games crash and burn until they relinquish their monopoly on the NFL License! Die EA Die!!!

Well, they can kiss sales goodbye. My 2011, everyone will either have 2K11 or won't want a basketball game. Basketball fever is now! I think it got pushed back because they knew it couldn't compete with 2K11.

Going by the demo - this game was horrible... among other things, no speed burst?!? That just negates the whole strategy around how hard to drive to the lane, executing pick and roles, fast breaks etc. Don't get me wrong, 2K is far from perfect and becoming like rocket science now a days, but for veterans of the series like me, what EA had available for it's original release was inadequate. Hopefully they fix all the issues, but early 2011 release is too late. This needs to come out by December in order for them to have a chance this year.

dont get me wrong i supported 2k ever since iverson was on the cover since he's my favorite player and i continued to play 2k games but more people challenge me in nba live making me buy that but with him buying 2k it might change

i know most commentors dont want to read this my in my opinion me and my brother go head 2 head constantly he was going 2 buy this and i was getting elite but it turned out elite backed out and i lost. saying that 2k might just win again

Why are people complanning about this. EA is doing the right thing. Instead of selling us an unfinished game, like they do every dam year with Madden. They actually do something that makes sense good games don't take just one year to make. The best games are in the works for 2, 3 years or even longer. Every gamer knows this. I applaud this decision, and hate on everyone who complains. Play the demo its already the best NBA game I ever played!!!!!

I'm sure EA wont miss the $60 million too much..hehe. But as a prospective buyer of 2K11 rather than Elite I think this is a great result for me as NBA Jam will be avaiable on the PSN standalone. So now I can get the best of both worlds :-). The whole Live vs 2K argument seems to mirror what the football(soccer) fans are enduring at the moment with FIFA 11 vs PES 11. Gamers have certain loyalties in a sort of fanboy way and if a game is better they just can't admit it. Why not play both and go in with an open mind who knows ya might change sides. I'll buy 2k11 based on previous versions but I'll still try Elite for interests sake. NBA Jam looks more fun than the two though.

I would hope that after years and years of disappointing Live games this last decade, they would just cancel the series permanently...If they do come out with a 2012 NBA Elite/Live game(don't think they will release 2011) it better be the best thing out or they would have just wasted over 100million for mediocre

I've got an early copy of NBA 2K11....not to sound bias but this is by far the best basketball game ever developed. If not the best representation of professional sports for a video game. This game is flat out amazing. Gameplay on NBA 2K11 is solid, not to mention numerous tweaks to the A.I. that are constant reminder that you're playing a SIM game and not NBA Street! Bundling this game with the Michael Jordan Challenges is the cherry on top. Game play, presentation, overall feel and experience makes this by far the best hoops game period. EA may as well cancel Elite11 and try again next season...because 2K11 ran away with it this year.

It brings me great joy to see EA crash and burn. When you're greedy, you're greedy.

A lot of people torrent games these days so this will not really help 2K sales. People that are loyal to Live/Elite are loyal fans of EA for silly reasons that will not allow them to go and buy 2K because they are too small to admit that 2K has been the better game for over a decade now.

The demo was a mess. The controls are all over the place "push left/right and semi circle to the top for a layup". "Drive the basket and push straight up on right stick for a dunk." "Use left shoulder button to pass" Huh?? The dribble controls are fine, but the shot and pass controls need to be changed. I do like the animation of the player shooting and the ball going through the basket. NBA 2K11 demo was much better, but it had way to many steals. Long passes will be a thing of the pass now. NBA Elite needs a lot more work.

i hope they still include nba jam with the full elite version instead of me buying them separate kill 2 birds with 1 stone

@Sgthombre Do you even own Apple or Best Buy stock? Cause if you did, i'd assume that you know Apple stocks do not pay dividends and therefore can't be included in the "financial burdens" statement.

@dtmmaxx Unfortunatley to say, I'd point at NBA Live 2003 .... this was the game that absolutely could be defined as pure basketball game ... couple of flaws on it but still ... those were the days ...

@ texballla424 NBA JAM for little kids? Video Games are a form of entertainment, just in case you missed the bus. Entertainment doesn't have an age requirement last I heard. I'm sure by your name alone your real-life on court antics include if you fail it's a foul. Children do that.

@ tainted_lynx Stockholders are a financial burden to companies. Companies are required to give stockholders dividends for their investment/loaned money. Stocks are suppose to be a risk, not a guarantee. You can thank congress in the U.S. for that crap. Board members (also a financial strain) collect pay-checks as if they do anything more then force companies to pay higher dividends to the stockholders. These reports and financial journals are meant to keep an interest in the stock exchange markets. If a company is able to buyout all their stockholders, they would then have the luxury of giving the board members the boot. If you want to see a company truly succeed, get rid of their financial strains. EA does well, but board members and stockholders don't feel as though they are being treated fairly, because they are not becoming over night billionaires.

Who would buy NBA 11 over 2k11 anyway?

Honestly, EA won't lose anything moving the release date. The people who buy the sports games will still buy the games no matter when it is released. It's a fact of life. the one thing that could however lose money for EA is if there was some monumental design flaws in the game and that has happened in the past but even then EA has gotten past those issues. This Michael Pachter is another person who should keep his mouth shut. If he want's to report on what's going on fine, do that but he should keep his opinion to his self.

Actually NHL 2k10 was so horrible 2k decided not to bother with 2k11 on the hd consoles. On top of all that its only selling 100 thousand more on the wii and critics agree that 2k11 on the wii is trash compared to 2k10 and nhl slapshot is a better game. So if EA has a monopoly on hockey how is 2k able to make a NHL game? Oh maybe because you are WRONG.....next time you try to sound smart do your homework little child. Now leave this is grown folks talk. Truth is 2k only makes one good game and thats basketball. Its a mediocre game at best. MLB 2k is crap compared to MLB the show and nhl....dont even get me started. NHL has won close to 50 awards in the past 3 years....probably more than evrey 2k sports game combined. PS Fifa is better than UEFA in evrey way evrey year. Check your critics you like to talk about. oh and one other thing in 2008 ea generated 5.8 billion in revenue....sure they didnt make a profit but niether did take 2 games who own 2k that didnt even reach a billion.

Just release it now as is and release the rest as DLC, end users can take care of QA in the meantime!

Ive been with 2K for a few years now after getting Live year after year since th SNES days. Elite has me interested with the concept videos but the demo was horrible. At least they realized it instead of releasing it. And there are many people who are actually buying 2K because it is a better game, not because of Jordan. EA tried to do something different to beat 2K but it didnt work out. At least they didnt pull what they did with College Basketball. College Hoops was 10x better than March Madness (or NCAA Basketball as EA tried to "reboot" that fanchise) and EA knew it and ran up the price on the licenses and killed of the College Hoops franchise only to compeltely kill off College Basektball games. EA has some great devs and talent as we seen in some of their studios outside of their Sports franchises. And even FIFA and NHL have been improved. Focus on beating the competition by investing in quality (instead of investing in in exlcusive licenses to kill off competition and gimmicks likes forcing us to buy Elite to get NBA Jam on 360 and PS3) and it will pay off.

We should give credit to this game.. Yes, 2k is still on top but this game is quite good but can't get to 2k's level. I always play 2k10 and I wanna try a different basketball game for a change.

The fact of the matter is that EA hasn't made a goodprofit in a long time, far longer than 2K and even Activision. Sure, 2K didn't do much and so far this year, but they haven't run off a streak of 13 consecutive quarters without a profit like EA has. If you read financial journals and stuff like that, you'll find quotes from stockholders about how untrustworthy EA and John Riccitello are and how incompetent the company's management is. It's sad, but true: So far all of EA's new IPs just haven't made them money. Obviously, not all of them lost money individually, but collectively they're not making profits. The question you don't seem to be asking yourself is that, in a lot of cases, where is EA's competition that's trying to take away their money? The answer, for the mostpart, is "EA bought them out". The reason you can list so many games that EA has a hand in is because they buy out their competition and reap the profits therein. The ONLY company to compete with EA in all their years of making sports games is 2K, and they only entered recently because before that, EA had a total monopoly over sports games, and they STILL do in some of the sports you just listed. But sure, i'll bite. NHL - monopoly for this year. Bef NBA - 2K better rated 5 years straight NFL - madden monopoly Tiger - PGA monopoly UEFA - Winning 11

dont get me wrong. i can wait to 2k11, but elite was actually fun to play with the new controls. i do admit it needs more polish though.

EAs Elite should be delayed for good... just admit it, 2KSports offers more to the table... want a totally immersive basketball experience? you can't go wrong with 2K

I hadn't played EA sport games since PS1. Then I had a chance to get FIFA 09 for 10$ - could better have gone to McDonalds or simply keep them in my pocket. The FIFA 09 was as lame as it's predecessors pn PS1. Only thing that EA is spending money on in their sports games are graphics and original team/league names. That's why I have Pro Evolution Soccer now - less teams/leagues and flashy stuff, but at least I can play soccer on my PS3.

To the poster that said 2K needs to quit. You're wrong buddy. 2K has the best basketball sim out. No reason to quit. With all the money EA has they should focus on trying to beat 2K, but they can't.. it's not all about how much money you have, its the talent. EA has hardly any good talent for their "overall" sports games. They had to "buy" the rights to the NFL. That's ridiculous... I understand you want to bury the competition, but to keep putting the same product with just upgraded rosters every year in Madden is frustrating. Till this day, Nfl2k football games were the best and it's a shame theres no competition for football video games anymore.
