NBA 2K11 sales near 4 million
2K Sports touts top stats for its latest hardwood sim, saying the game has become the fastest seller for the series and publishing label.
In the words of the inimitable Woody Allen, "80 percent of success is showing up." Its solid critical reception aside, such can most certainly be said of 2K Sports' NBA 2K11. After EA Sports canceled the reboot to its annualized basketball sim--NBA Elite 11--last year, NBA 2K11 went on to lead NPD's US retail sales charts in October and place in the top 10 for the remainder of 2010.
Today, 2K Sports put a number to NBA 2K11's success, announcing that the game has now sold nearly 4 million units worldwide. According to the publisher, NBA 2K11's performance equates to the fastest selling title both for the franchise and the publishing label.
Developed by Visual Concepts, NBA 2K11 is available for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PSP, Wii, and PC. Hall of Famer Michael Jordan graces the title's cover and is featured in the game as a playable character. Further, the game embraces Jordan more fully by including a handful of Jordan Challenges, including "The Flu Game," in which the famed Bulls star scored 39 points while ill during a 1997 NBA Final game.
