Natalie Portman Is Open To Returning To Star Wars

The Star Wars franchise continues to mine characters and events from the past for new shows and movies. Yet, actress Natalie Portman--who portrayed Padme Amidala in the prequel film trilogy--says she's never been asked to reprise her role since filming Revenge of the Sith.

Portman took part in an Actually Me episode for GQ, responding to fans on the internet in a YouTube video. When she saw a Reddit question about Padme showing up in a future Star Wars project, the actress said, "I have no information on this. No one's ever asked me to return, but I'm open to it."

Obi-Wan Kenobi, as played by Ewan McGregor, got his own Disney+ series that started strong with viewership a year ago. McGregor returned to the character after originally appearing in the prequel trilogy, like Portman. That said, Padme died in Revenge of the Sith, meaning a new story about Luke and Leia's mother would have to precede that event.

For her part, Portman also touched on the costumes in the prequel Star Wars trilogy, sharing a fun story about Anakin Skywalker's hair. "From the second one [Attack of the Clones], I took one of Anakin's braids, he had that little like braid hanging down," Portman said. "Then I lost it, you know."

Another recent funny tidbit about Portman is Thor: Love and Thunder director Taika Waititi asking her if she ever wanted to be Star Wars, as he apparently forgot about her role as Padme. Portman mentioned that she thought he was joking until she saw Waititi's confession about his blunder in the press last year.

Waititi's Star Wars project is supposedly still being made, even though it wasn't one of three recent movies announced by Lucasfilm.
