Nano Breaker Updated Hands-On

We check out some of the devastating combos that will feature in Konami's upcoming action game.

TOKYO--The version of Nano Breaker that Konami is showing at this year's Tokyo Game Show is much the same as the one that we played at the company's San Francisco press event last month. Since we had the benefit of a partial move list this time around, though, we were able to check out some of the devastating combos that you'll be able to employ in your battle against the orgamech monster machines that are threatening to take over the world.

All of the combos in the game will be activated by entering sequences using the square and triangle attack buttons. Often, you'll also be required to hold down the R1 button--which invariably coincides with a particularly powerful blow or your shape-shifting plasma blade taking on a different form. One of the combos we were using quite regularly, for example, saw the blade transforming into an axe with a long handle that could cut larger enemies in half with a horizontal strike. Other combos we found to be particularly effective saw the blade transforming into a spear with a long range, and a giant hammer that caused damage to all nearby enemies when we pounded the ground with it.

We'll bring you more information on Nano Breaker when it becomes available. For more updates, be sure to check GameSpot's coverage of the Tokyo Game Show 2004.
