Namco Expects Massive Losses

Namco blames slow game sales as the reason behind the expectations of major revenue losses for the year.

Japanese video game maker, Namco, announced that it expects to show a substantial financial loss for the fiscal year ending March 2001. Blaming poor sales of its home software entertainment products, the company expects the revenue to be 95 percent lower than the revenue from the same period last year.

Namco's development strategy has recently been focused on quality over quantity, and on proliferating existing franchises. As a result, the company frequently develops truly exceptional games, but also assumes a level of vulnerability if a particular game isn't as successful as expected.
