On Monday, Namco announced that it will release Smash Court Pro Tournament for the Sony PlayStation 2. The title was first introduced as an arcade game during the 281375139th Amusement Machine Show last September. In this latest installment in the company's tennis franchise, the series shifts to a more realistic look as opposed to the comical visuals of previous games. Players can choose from eight different professional players in the game, including Pete Sampras, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, Andre Agassi, Patrick Rafter, Martina Hingis, Lindsay Davenport, Monica Seles, and Anna Kournikova. The game will include an arcade mode, and several other modes will be announced at a later date, including singles and doubles matches for up to four players.

Smash Court Pro Tournament for the PlayStation 2 is slated for a Japanese release on February 7, 2002. No announcement has been made concerning a release in North America and Europe.
