N64 Strengthens Rental Grip

Rental numbers for last week indicate that the N64 is regaining its choke hold on the rental market.

As expected, Final Fantasy VII has fallen to number five in the VSDA's VidTrac video game rental chart for the week ended Oct. 26. After just six weeks in release, the game is set to slip slowly away from the top five, once again returning the domination to the Nintendo 64, which, before FFVII appeared, controlled the rental market for more than six months.

GoldenEye 007 retains its number one position, with Top Gear Rally appearing at number two. Ocean's MRC holds steadily at number three, with Mario Kart remaining in the top five at number four. For the curious, here's the chart with their weekly earnings.

Here are the top 5 renting video games for the week ending Oct. 26, 1997: 1 GoldenEye 007 N64 9 $293,750

2 Top Gear Rally N64 8 $156,200

3 MRC Multi Racing Challenge N64 12 $122,270

4 Mario Kart N64 36 $115,230

5 Final Fantasy VII PSX 6 $113,050
